Started heat 15 Feb. Yesterday = 2 weeks= Mar. 1st. I need someone to advise me other than spaying her, which I don't believe in, what is the "average" time frame that I need to be dealing with? I forgot, and I'm sure with someones' help, I can try 2 remember. Thanks. Veteranary science was my dream, not achieved, unfortunately. Give me your best.

First of all, are you willing do deal with her menstruation. She can't wear a pad like humans. If you keep her up to date with her shots but don't fix her. She should be okay, but they are more aggressive when they are in heat when they aren't fixed. Good luck with that.

Each season lasts approximately 3 weeks from beginning to end and she can fall pregnant at anytime throughout her season so make sure she is not left anywhere outside unattended. Only lead walk her during her season away from other dogs. Do not walk her around your home as she will just attract all the males which can be a nuisance. I'd pop her in the car and take her somewhere quiet for a run.
As long as you are responsible it is perfectly easy to keep an entire *****. The one thing that may happen is that with increasing age they have a greater risk of a womb infection, pyometra, so my personal preference is to spay my bitches at about 8 years old so that they are still healthy enough to endure an anesthetic without too many complications. I get their teeth done around this age too so they are all sparkling for when they are pensioners!

You can get her spayed when she is out of heat...the typical first heat can last anywhere from 10 days to 21 days. She is much too young to be breeding right now...be real careful with her. And if i am not mistaken they will come into heat 3-4 months after their first ...not sure of the days exactly...Best thing to do is contact a vet...they can tell you right over the phone about dogs breeding cycles....Hope this helps some...GL!

GAA!!

Get her FIXED! SHE IS A MUTT!! If somebody's intact male gets to her when you let you guard down for 5 seconds, you are going to have MUTT PUPPIES that you are going to have to place, shelter or drown. Yeah, and I know that mutts are some of the most awesome dogs in the world, and you can't do better than a mutt for companionship and blah, blah, blah, but there are millions upon millions of mutts in shelters all over the country and you are going to ADD TO THAT. If that pedigree commercial doesn't make you cry, then you have no conscience and you shouldn't have a dog.

Veterinary science. For what? Apparently, you don't give two shits about the obscenely large population of unwanted dogs. That why you didn't go?
