A child died of a toothache that turned into an infection that spread to his brain. Everyone is blaming the medical system because they didn't give him free dental work, how about putting some resposibility on the parent for not making sure the child took care of his teeth and didn't seek help any sooner once the tooth was rotted out.

I dont see how you could blame the medical system when clearly the parents never took the child to see a dentist or a dr over this issue. It would be like blaming a grocery store for a child starving to death when its parents refused to feed it! Plus any ER wouldve treated the child.

I heard about that! The parents are trying to take the issue placed on them of child neglect to blame the health care provider. If they did go to the dentist over the situation they were probably told what needed to be done and they refused treatment because of money or something. Now they lost a child's life which was worth way more than an extraction or root canal!

Yes I did hear about it and also read it on the internet, was deeply shocked.

I don't blame the parent, some families have hereditary teeth problems (like ours) and imagine the mother probably working double shift, cooking, taking care of other kids. And please remember if u had read the whole story the mother also had another sikc kid to take care of (dental problems).

How much would it have cost to take care of the problematic tooth than perform a brain surgery?????

The system doesn't care about people poor, period.

I did read about this...but the amount of time that poor kid had been sitting in pain, is what really shocks me..yes it is possible for any infection in your mouth to go to your brain, but it takes a fair amount of time and a whole lot of pain before that...It's not just something that all of a sudden happens over night. It's really the parents fault...I'm a mother of 3, and I know you can always get your kids to brush right...and it's not cheap to take them to a desntist...but when it comes to them and there health they will always come first...no matter what.

Anyone can get tooth decay. I do agree it can be accelerated by poor teeth hygiene, but don't blame the child or the parents for tooth decay. It does not really matter who is to "blame" for this. It is an unnecessary tragedy that should not happen to anyone.

It is really sad that the parents did/ could not pay proper attention to their unfortunate kid. In fact, to make a women pregnant and to give birth a child is one thing and to be a 'father' or 'mother' is another thing. Unfortunately, many times, we become less careful and attentive to our children even than that of some wild animals. It is sad- really sad.

Nope, I didn't hear about this. It is hard to know exactly where to place the blame. The parents are not blameless in that they didn't keep a general eye on the kids health.
