I have cocktail's and i breed them.It is perfectly normal for them to lay unfertile egg's.It just means that she is ready to produce fertial egg's.Just take it out or leave it in with her, your choice.

Maybe you should put her in with a male friend she is obviously ready for breeding. And i think you'll find it will make her happy^_^

hope that helps.

Egg laying without a male is not uncommon. While one or two infertile eggs usually is not a problem, if she lays continually it will deplete the calcium and protein in her body. You don't want that.

What makes cockatiels come into breeding mode are the right amounts of food, water and daylight. Of these, the only one you can adjust to bring her out of breeding condition is daylight. Gradually reduce her light to eight hours per day. She should stop laying quickly. Once her hormones adjust, you may be able to increase her light again. but you want to avoid continually bouncing her up and down on the hormone levels. If she comes right back into laying eggs again, just keep her at the reduced light levels.

You can control light by covering her cage or moving her into a darker room. If you do the dark room bit, you have complete control over the daylight if you give her artifical light on a timer. Just be sure you're not ignoring her by leaving her in a dark room alone all the time.

Leave the egg alone. Let her keep it until she is done sitting on it. If you take it away before she has realized that it wont hatch, then she will mourn for it. Plus it could cause her go into overdrive and lay lots of eggs. When she is bored with it or has broken the shell, then it is time to take it out.

If you dont want her to lay right now, then reduce her light. A Tiel needs only about 10-12 hours of darkness to sleep. Keep her warm and put a dark blanket or towel over her cage when it is her bedtime. I usually do that around dusk. Giving her only 10-12 hours of light a day will make a world of difference. She will still lay eggs. But not as often.

In the meantime, give her lots of love and attention. Make sure she has toys. A fresh cuttlebone is a great source of calcium. They love treats too. I buy treat sticks at the pet store. They are pretty cheap. And JoJo goes crazy over the honey ones. She also likes uncooked pasta, pieces of dry toast(no butter). She loves all kinds of greens. Bananas, apples, grapes, raisins,...and more.

Hope I helped you out a bit!

Goodluck!

Sorry , Nothing there but an empty room. But she is telling you something. that if you are looking to be the proud grandparent of a baby cockatiel now would be a good time to look a getting a male bird.Try not to go to a pet store to get this fine male stud for your little girl. Breeders have birds that are more likely to produce and tamer . And check with them on what you need for nesting for them. It is a lot of work but worth it.

This would be an unfertalized egg, and if you dont have the time to raise a baby bird, this is a good thing. well you dont have a male anyway.

i would assume the female bird won't know that its fertalized or not. if your bird sits on the egg, then leave it alone. If it abandons it, its safe to take it out. It usually would not sit on it anyway because it was not provided a nest.

If you take it away too soon, she will lay again and again and that's not healthy. Laying uses up alot of calcium so make sure she has a calcium supplement. A calcium supplement will also help prevent egg binding which can kill a bird.

I would suggest getting an an artificial egg and replace the real one with the fake one. They are sold online at lots of places and maybe even some higher end pet stores.

nothing its normal for her to lay an egg without a male bird. Your cockatiel may think that you are her boyfriend so she layed it for you. It sounds strange but its true, it was on vet show.

It is normal thing and the egg can be discarded. The danger is that your bird will continue to lay eggs and deplete her body of calcium which can lead to broken bones and death.
Make sure your bird has a good source of vitamin D and calcium.
Look for ways to reduce her egg laying.
