I was out from 10am yesterday, and had to catch about 10 different buses to and back from where I went and was really stressed out when I came in at 6.30pm..
I normally give Bobby (my siamese cat) loads of attention (and my other cat, sophie, but she's usually happy sleeping on my bed all day) but I had loads of stuff to do and had to ignore him pretty much..
This is the first time i've ignored him in ages, I went upstairs to bed and found he'd done a poo on it (it was fresh :\ - and had to be him as my other cat *always* goes out to do her business), I watched him do a wee in his tray and he always does his number 2 in there as well.. so was this a punishment for ignoring him?
(He's a really, really intelligent siamese male cat.. he's being neutered in the next two weeks as he's just reached 6 months old)

Yup! That is one way of them showing their displeasure.

Siamese are masters at "pay back". I have had Siamese for many decades and trust me, they will exact out revenge when ignored.
I left for my daughter's wedding for a week and had to board my brood. I usually hire a per sitter to come into the home. When I picked them up, I let my one old gal stay out of the carrier. BIG MISTAKE. She had the WHOLE van to potty in. But oh no, she crawled into my Laurel Burch bag and did the most awful bowel movement. I know she saved ALL WEEK to do that.
Another time when I was gone to Britain for a month, I had my daughter stay over plus a pet sitter come in twice a day EVERY day for several hours to sit with my kids. Upon arriving home, the same old gal made a beeline for my suitcase on the bed and urinated at LEAST a quarts worth in it.
Retribution? You bet! I never took another trip till she passed. Ahhh the joys of owning a cat....:)

we can never be scientificly sure what motivates cats or any other pet animals. to guess what another species is thinking has been a taboo in animal etology until resent years. but we have observed some behavior which various scientist have decribes as relating to human emothions whether the act was deliberate or for some other reason, we may never know we can just make an educated guess. cats can be very subject to changes in the enviroment. lack of attention could be one.
I have seen a cat use reinforcement theories to catch flies, so the idea of a cat using punishment does not seem far fetched to me.

maybe? cats are very delicate creatures nd wants attention from u even if they are just laying around the house! they want attention so much! its very hard to own one but rewarding!
i suggest that when ur busy u shud keep eye contact. let ur cat know that u are not completely ignoring him! or better yet take him to a friend's house where he will be given lots of attention and care.
and so for ur other cat! Sophie is not that much of an attention grabber maybe because she is used to not getting that much attention. as for Bobby, the cat u always attend to, u shud give him attention too, so shud Sophie. it may be difficult but i suggest that u spent time with them equally and slowly deduct the time u spend on bobby so that he might get used to it. as ur time for bobby deducts, u shud reduce ur time for Sophie until ur quality time with both cats are equal. this will give u a chance to spent ur time w/ ur cats and both of them will like u!
it is easy to know if they are punishing you if they act out like bobby did....
so i hope i can help!
IM me and tell me how it goes ok?
i wanna know more about u nd ur cat!

You bet you've been punished! My cat did that to me when I got my first job, he pulled my jacket off the back of the chair, and unloaded on it; looked as if he'd saved it up for a few days. He's mad at you.

Probably. Put the poo in the litterbox and show it to him and show that you were angry with it.
