Great question! There really is not much difference between the two texts.
Most Christians have never read the entire Bible themselves, so they don't know that it says that God killed millions, and repeatedly COMMANDED his followers to torture and kill hundreds of thousands of people.

There are some advice on the thank you to understand. somewhat some the "commandments" of the OT are actually not regulations interior the experience of criminal regulations, yet are ideals and aims for good residing. some are stated in terms of exaggeration. some manage ritual that doesn't carry over into Christianity. somewhat some the stoning regulations are to make constructive that a vendetta isn't started. while the whole city takes area in a stoning, there is not any one that the relatives can take vengeance on. If the discern stones the new child then it particularly is a relatives matter and not the start of a cycle of revenge. it particularly is probably not written down interior the Bible, yet we presume that the historic prepare, particularly close to the 1st Century, could be a demonstration of ways Jesus, the Apostles and the early Christians understood it. The early Christians did baptize; the early Christians respected marriage and made very strict regulations concerning its dissolution, the early Christians did have a Eucharistic provider, the early Christians did not pluck out eyes or habit stoneings. That people who lived while Jesus lived and had an information of what he taught and what he meant could trump any undeniable analyzing of the Bible. notice that those have been the folk for whom the Bible replace into written by and for. It is clever that they does not do what's rather an exaggeration. Protestant pupils have been coaching this interior the 1800s, yet Catholics did not have faith the "historic-serious technique" till 1950. on account that then Catholic theologians have got here as much as hurry by 1970 and have been making contributions to the certainty of the Bible and its interpretation by the Church. by 1980 those thoughts have been taught in all Catholic faith colleges instructions. by 1990, established books and straightforward college books on Catholic faith contain those thoughts.

Muslims often take the barbaric texts from the Koran as direct commands from God (Allah) to do the same thing.
Neither Christians nor Jews do this. We understand that the OT and NT periods are over, and the only relevant passages are those that bring us closer to God.
(You knew all of this right? If you didn't, please tell all of us the last time you saw ANY Jews or Christians trying to hunt down Canaanites or Amalekites to kill them? You see, actions have to match claims, otherwise the claims are mere hot air.)

Firstly, I've never cited anything, good or bad, from either.
Secondly, I've never read the Koran, so how could i cite from it?
I'll ask any other christian why s/he does if I ever run into one doing so.

There are no barbaric texts in the NT.
Also, it would be good if you at least used a recognized version of the Bible rather than this clap trap one that is cited here.

In response to the answer about "when's the last time you saw..." I will say that not TOO terribly long ago, "Do not suffer a witch to live" was taken to QUITE the extreme by good, god-fearing christians....When will you understand that religion is just another excuse to exert your will over another person?

A lot of people here haven't even read the Quran they go onto some website where some idiot has purposley distorted verses or takent them out of context and says this is what they Quran says.
There is a particular quote that critics like to quote out of context to “prove” that Islam promotes terrorism and killing of those who do not convert to Islam. If you actually read the whole chapter in context you would be able to see that the person quoting has clearly not read the chapter and is just searching through the quran for anything that resembles violence.
So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the pagans wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-due, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 5
As you read this verse you probably have already made some judgments, saying “How can anybody justify this?” However this verse is being quoted out of context. If you read the verse before this it sheds more light on what is going on.
(But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom you have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loves the righteous.
Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 4
As you can now without a doubt see there were covenants and treaties in place which had been broken by some of the pagan tribes of Arabia. As you can plainly see war was not waged on tribes which had abided and kept true to their word and Allah clearly reminds us of that.
It is obviously not talking about killing Christians and Jews (People of the Book) or anybody else for that matter. However some may still be thinking, “Does that justify war?” However the following verse explains
Will you not fight a folk who broke their solemn pledges, and purposed to drive out the messenger and did attack you first?
Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 13
We saw an event in recent history when one leader broke his agreement and caused the biggest war mankind has ever seen. September 29th 1938, Adolf Hitler, Neville Chamberlain, Édouard Daladier and Benito Mussolini signed the Munich Agreement.
Which, simply agreed that after Germany seized control of Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia, Hitler would not make any more territorial claims. This was known as Neville Chambarlains policy of appeasement. However we know that Hitler went on to invade much of Europe. Hitler’s deceit and renunciation of his agreement is the straw that broke the camels back. During World War II you could say that the Allied forces were carrying out Jihad.
The breaking of covenants by the pagans of Arabia was what caused Islam to prepare for war and the revelation of the above verses. Muslims can not engage in war with someone who does not wish to cause us harm.
Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Has opened no way for you (to war against them).
Quran An- Nisa Chapter 4 Verse 90
So as you can see Allah allows Muslims to take up arms in self defence. Allah also orders Muslims to fight against persecution and oppression.
And what is wrong with you that you do not fight in the way of Allah, and for those weak, ill-treated and oppressed among men, women and children, whose cry is: “Our Lord! Rescue us from this city, whose people are unjust, and appoint to us from You one who will protect us, and appoint to us from You a help”
Quran An-Nisa Chapter 4 Verse 75

The difference is, in The OT God gave specific instructions for a specific place and time. He did not command the Jews to "kill all Infidels" where ever they found them as in the koran.
