Hi,
The bike is 2nd hand, and its an older model I think about 2001. It has a kickstart with a lever on the left handle bar, however Im not sure what Im meant to do ie do I press this lever in whilst attempting to kick start? Or press it in once just before commencing to kick start it? So far nothing I have tried works. Im assuming the bike's meant to be in neutral. Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the answer, but im not talking about the clutch. The Ktm's are electric start, and also have a kick start for flat batteries. To use the kick start there is a little lever-near the clutch-that somehow allows you to kick start the bike...not sure how though??

To kickstart you flip the lever out and then jump on it from a standing position, as opposed to pushing down with your leg while seated. It may not work anyway if the battery is dead. To bump or roll start it put it in 3rd gear with the clutch pulled in. If you try to use 1st gear to bump start it the torque ratio between the wheel and the engine will be such that it will be very difficult for the wheel to turn the engine (makes sense, right?). So you need to start in a higher gear-lower engine speed relative to wheel speed. As soon as it starts haul the clutch in and make to not let the engine die again. Leave it running for at least 15 min to recharge the battery, or just go for a ride. Or you can get a jump, but be careful if you use a car you can fry your wiring harness.

The small lever on the left should be the choke lever.

Always start your bike in Neutral.

If the battery is flat then neither the electric nor kick starter will work.

You would need to 'bump start' it run the engine to get the battery charged up.

I would remove the battery and re-charge it - check the water levels first, top up if needed, BUT if it's really old, it's best to buy a new one.
