I have been taking Effexor for my sudden anxiety attacks for about two months now. It has really helped, and I haven't had a panic attack in a while. However, I noticed that I am a lot hyper, I'm usually shy, and a lot more irratitable than I've ever been. It's like, I'm either in a really great mood, or a really shitty mood. Recently, it's been getting a lot worse. I get really mad easily, and it feels like I can't control myself. I want to hurt myself and HATE myself at that moment, although I haven't felt this way in a while (I've been taking Celexa for my depression for two years, but the doctors switched me to this, because it's an anti-depressant AND an anti-anxiety medication.) Do you think this is just a common side effect, or do you think this is happening because I've switched medications? I know I should be asking my doctor this, but I want to see if anyone else can relate to me. Can you help me out please?

Hi
I am on it too, This is the 3rd time i've had to take it in 4 years, I was once on it for 18 months.
It does make you hyper, and makes you tired sometimes.I'm guessing that's why you are irritable.
Its one of the best one's for getting your strength and energy back,
Perhaps it's not right for you,
I'd see your GP and ask for an alternative if you are not happy.
But whatever you do DON'T STOP TAKING IT SUDDENLY you will have the worst depression ever, and you will be as sick as a dog.
e- mail me if you want to talk

So that is why I feel so moody at times. Thanks for sharing...it is nice to know I am not alone. There may be other drugs out there to assist you with the way you feel...in fact, I am on three drugs just to keep me sane (Effexor is just one). It all depends on what you have going on...if it is just depression, then it just may be a matter of changing drugs. If is something else (i.e. a source for such self-hatred), you may need more than just a doctor's help such as counseling. God bless you in your journey.

I used to take Effexor XR and I had the same problems. It turned out that it was PMDD. I would get incredibly angry the week before my period. So my doctor took me off the Effexor and I went on Sarafem. Talk to your doctor!!!! He or she will help you through it.
