My psychiatrist wants to have me on 150 mgs on Zoloft/day to treat my panic disorder, PTSD, and chemical depression. I've had such a huge scare with medications, I just wondered if this seemed normal or healthy? To start with 25mgs/day and gradually make my way up to 150mgs/day within a months time. Should I expect any weird side effects?

Dosages for Panic disorder are usually as follows:start with 25mg per day and increase by 50mg per day each week until the desired dosage has been met.The max dosage per day for any disorder is 200mg per day.So if the doctor started you on 25mg per day then increase to 75mg per day the next week, then increase to 125 mg the next week and then increase to 150 the next week.So the increase takes place over 4 weeks.

Side affects are,but not limited to: headache, sleepiness, insomnia, changes in blood pressure, decreased sex drive, nervousness, anxiety, irregular heart beat.

I have been on 150 mg of Zoloft for years now and the only side effect I have had is the usual sexual disfunction that comes from taking that medication. But as people vary, so too will the side effects. That is probably why your psychiatrist is going up gradually to watch for side effects.

And let me just comment on the person's comment above me. They are just trying to scare you. I have never heard of anything like they described happening (cars through fences, etc) A gradual increase, like your psychiatrist is doing is perfectly safe.

I tried Zoloft and didn't seem to care for it but then, I've always been on Prozacs. and they worked for me. There is another newer drug on the market called celexia. Like my doctor told me Zoloft and Prozacs are ancient and the celexia are modern. I tried the celexia I didn't mind it but I always go to Prozacs. May be you can ask your doctor about Prozacs or celexia I found Zoloft to be week and didn't quite get in there.
Also next time you see your doctor ask about Trans Cranial Magnetic Stimulation. This might interest you. A lot of people who get this treatment feel better almost immediately and the effects lasts longer than meds. What it is is a wand like device hey hold above your head and there is magnets inside that are very powerful. During a TV documentary about this people were saying meds weren't working but the effects of this treatment was great.

It's not uncommon to raise a dose like that. Think of it this way: 25 the first week, doubled the second week at 50, double that in week 3 for 100 and by the fourth week you're up to 150mg.

If this increase worries, talk to your doctor. He will explain everything involved in the process. The only side effects you may experience are the same as those you may experience now. He's not chaning the chemical, he's just increasing the amount.

Trust your doctor, he probably knows what he's doing.

firstly, my god woman, get a life. zoloft??? stay away! but besides that, go speak to people who have ended up putting their cars through neighbor's fences after swallowing america's answer to "depression".

there are 1000 ways to cure depression. zoloft is not one of them.

perhaps you'd prefer electro shock therapy? it amounts to the same thing!
