I think this 'money is the root of all evils' is both misquoted and misunderstood. Money is a tool of trade, and it is merely a tool, nothing more, nothing less. It is inert - neither alive, nor good, nor evil. Accoring to the quote from the bible that says 'the love of money is the root of all evil', it makes one think that it is wrong to want money, or to have money.

My thought is, how can 'love' of something be evil? If I 'love' my posessions, i.e., my car, my apartment, my clothes, my tv, my xbox, and my money, does that make me evil? Does that make you evil for loving your own posessions?

I think the idea of 'love of money is the root of all evil' is a widely misinterpreted quote. If I have money, and I love my money, that doesn't make me evil. However, if I try to get money by hurting others, then, my action of hurting other people is evil. The 'love of money' in itself is not evil, but the way you acquire money may be - depending on what you did to get it, and the way you use that money may be evil - depending on what you do with it.

Having money allows you to live well. That in itself is not evil. But if you get money by killing/lie/cheat people, or use that money to kill/lie/cheat people, then YOU are evil - it's not the love of money - but your actions and choices you make that makes YOU evil.

I can also note here that violent crime happens a lot more in poorer neighborhoods - where money is scarce. So, in some cases, the "Lack of money" can make people commit crime, because crime may be the easiest means to get the money they need to feed themselves and live well enough.

And money cannot make you happy. Your happiness comes from within, when you have a sense of fulfillment of your needs and desires. However, money can allow you to live well, and make life easier - materially speaking.

According to the Holy Bible, the love of money is the root of all evil. I think we can look at just the US and see the absolute truth in that statement. Many people have killed others for money. People who have not,lie to get or am I mistaken. Money is only worth the good it can do for others. Even the poorest American live so much better than most of the rest of the world.

Money is definitely the root of all the evils. No doubt we need money to procure our needs and there is nothing wrong to earn money by just means for maintaining our family and self. The question is 'how much'. Saibaba says with an example. i.e., Your shoe should fit to the correct size so that you can walk comfortably. If the size is little small you will hurt yourself and you can not walk at all. If it is of oversize then there is every possibility of your falling or the shoe will come out due to loose fit. Hence you should earn just sufficient money to maintain yourself and your family. If the money is earned to meet luxurious life styles, then you are considered otherwise because there are billions of human beings living in utter poverty unable to feed themselves once a day. If you are affluent, you should go heart and soul to help those unfortunate brothers with food, clothing and medicines. If you feel that it is the duty of government, you are mistaken. If everybody start helping the less fortunate people with their surplus fund or clothing or food or medicines, hunger and diseases will flee from the earth. nagarajan

The great problem is that the more the people have, more they want and that is the reason of so much wars in the world. If everybody lived without money, if it didn't exist, they would be more solidary one with the other ones.

1Timothy 6:10

"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains. "

Money is not the root of all evil, But The LOVE of money is, The love of money put a person not wanting to serve God. Millionaires have money & love God, But if they put that money before God & worship the money, then it becomes evil.

The actual quote is "The love of money is the root of all evil" which really takes most of the spin out of arguements about money and religion....now pass your collection plate, the guy in the church that only works on sundays needs to make his house payment.....lol!!! All said and done though, money in and of itself was even acknowledged in the christian bible "Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar" etc....it's the LOVE of money and the refusal to be happy where one is at that drives people to crime and atrocity.

Money is just a tool. There's nothing wrong with the money. Wrong are our desires. We require money to fulfill our desires. We want money to secure our future. We want money to improve our social status.

And about the saying, tehre are hell lot of senseless sayings around the world. Most of them don't get close to reality. People all around are busy in pursuit of their own desires. They have no time to consider the other person as God or dog...

It is an overrated issue in todays world. Money is truely essential to lead a decent life but if u become greedy and stoop to any level to accumulate it, then it becomes ugly.
