ya know, I get these too, and sometimes, the best thing to do is to just sit and be still...and breath..and remind yourself, that you are going to be fine...you are doing okay...you need to give yourself a lot of love and a bit of a "pep" talk....just for you!
Don't feel ashamed if you have to talk aloud, to get yourself to "chill out" for a bit....it happens to alot of us....
For me, I talk aloud,,and I sometimes give myself a huge hug..and or a pat on the shoulders...just to let myself know, I am really gonna make it! I also do it, so as not to let those stupid and horrifying feelings frighten the heebeegeebee's outta me!
SOmetimes, ya just gotta be kind to yourself!! I know that it helps me a lot...and I learned the pat on the back and hug yourself stuff from other health pro's,...and even groups that I have been in..and it sooooo helps...SO much!!! I have gotten out of a LOT of scary "places" in my mind...by loving myself..and telling myself..."it's okay....you are gonna be okay,...it's alright,,.,!" and I have often just let the sobs come out of me....it really helps....
I also use other things....some people pray...(I do this,,,to help me,,,and to release pain..whether it is physical pain or mental anguish pain....but, this really does help for me,.,,) I also ask for help from not just God, but, Guardian Angels and or "good spirits" to help me think a lot more positive..and a whole lot less negative!! I will honestly tell you....that all of these things...honest to God, have helped me get past a lot of horrible dreams, and scary thoughts..and frightening episodes....and I stop having those thoughts. of pure panic....I would say..."whatever works for you....just do it!"
I hope that you get better soon....it's no fun feeling depressed, frightened..and scared all of the time...and those types of things like panic attacks can be really, really frightening!!!

You can't exactly avoid them unless they are brought on by something you can eliminate from your life but you can learn how to control them. Panic attacks are generally brought on by the fight or flight hormone called adrenaline and more often than that it is caused by an exagerated fear or an unnatural fear of something. Cognitive therapy can help you learn different methods of controling them when you begin to understand what you are reacting to. Without going to therapy to find out your triggers I can only tell you to keep telling yourself it will pass. It's the method I used to get through hundreds of them till went to a counselor. I started having them when I was about 5 years old and continued through my whole life till only a few years ago. Good luck.

Medications called benzodiazipines used to treat this condition have a very short half life, often require increases in dosage,as tolerance develops, and also have a potential for abuse and dependence...My experience with guided imagery which incorporates visualization techniques and breathing exercises, has made a tremendous difference in my life! Most bookstores have a very good selection of books and audio materials on "Guided Imagery",as well as your local library..

I have found that praying, calming my mind and doing some deep breathing exercises works really well. If you can sit or lie down all the better. Remind yourself that you'll get through this soon.

In my case, nothing but medication (clonazepam) would stop them. I have heard that people should carry a paper bag with them to breathe into--how much good that does, I don't know. I do go to therapy, but "they" have found that I was born with the conditions that I have--that no particular event triggered them.

I repeatedly tell myself that I am OK. sometimes this works, other times i just have to remove myself from the problem. if you have not been to the doc about this i suggest you do, they can worsen over time.
