Be as nice as you can and be honest with him in letting him know that you do value your friendship but that you just don't share the same depth of feelings for the relationship.

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Being nice and leading him on has gotten him here. If you are super nice he might still think he has a chance. You need to be honest with him, and tell him you don't feel anything for him and you never will. If you have this guy's best interest at heart, do this because it might hurt now but it will save him a lot of hurt in the future if you kept leading him on.

Well I would say, you know you and I have such a great friendship. I do not want anything to destroy that, I have to tell you something though. I have feelings for someone else. I dont want to loose you as a friend but my heart is with another. (I know its not true but its a comfort to a man when hes being let down) He can say to himself or its not me she doesnt want its that her heart is with another. You dont have to go into details. If you are very open with each other, you can also use I still care for someone from my past and I am dealing with it. Then its up to him whether he wants to accept that and just be your buddy. I think alittle white lie saves the day when there are matters of the heart involved.

Well think about it. If you were in love with someone would there be anyway they could reject you without hurting your feelings? Answer is no.... Of course he is going to be hurt so best to be honest & it will be less humiliating for him. It's not nice to lead people on & i'm guessing he is probably only infatuated with you & will move on very quickly.

Just like in any other types of relationship, you must tell the truth. It does not matter how you say it. It is still going to hurt. In my opinion, I feel as though it is worse saying lets just be friends than hating them for life.
You sound like a good person and I believe you can handle the situation when the time comes for you to approach him.

There is no easy "guilt free" way out of this especially when you are a very "feeling" person yourself, which you must be to be so concerned about letting him go, but your decision will bring rewards for both in the end, hard to see that now but it will happen.......good luck to you

it may seem brutal but youve gotta be honest with him hun, if you dont its only going to hurt him more in the future and then he may not even want to be your friend.
