your archaic views are cut from the same cloth as those who stated the earth was flat, it was the center of the universe, and that the sun revolved around it? Has history taught you nothing?

I never said that the bible made trhese satatements. I said the beliefs were cut from the same cloth, meaning they are similar or analogous to. Similar in that they are beliefs held onto for religious reasons despite advancements in science. Most of you are very dense and I see no hope for you.

Archaic views? Most of them have come from science, not religion.

For instance, Galileo taught that the sun was the center of the universe. We know now that this is not true.

It was science -- not religion -- that long held that the earth was flat. So don't knock other people's grasp of history, because your grasp of it doesn't seem too tight.

Back to Galileo -- the Church was actually very interested in his ideas about the earth orbiting the sun.

Pondering this idea was not what got Galileo in trouble. He got in trouble because he went teaching this idea before he had proven it.

And he taught this at-the-time unproven idea with, again, the idea that the sun was the center of the universe.

So it's a good thing that the Church didn't blindly accept his ideas, because if it had, it would have accepted a teaching that was only half right.

Those who fail to acknowledge history are doomed to repeat it. Not very surprising it usually takes them around 500 - 600 years to except crazy theories like a sun centered solar system So I imagine I'll be long dead before evolution is even really considered

And how they love to accuse science of saying the earth was flat, but fail in giving the scientific data and research.

I never heard any one say the world was flat. Just gossip and why would any one think the earth was different than the moon in shape, how stupid. That is like saying the cave man discovered fire, I do not see where any one had any problem having fire.

Do you realize that ALL of the authors of the Bible died before the Middle Ages and none of them had ever heard of the "flat earth" theory?

I used to have my students read the essay I've linked to below in my physics classes. (I had them read a couple by C.S. Lewis, too, along the same lines.) Perhaps we should all take a moment to read it.
