If you can find a good massage therapist who uses the practices below the pain level may be more managable (I prefer chiropractors to Md's)
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Has your doctor prescribed physical therapy? Also, many insurance companies accept chiropratic medicine as well as accupuncture and accupressure.

What exactly is wrong with your spine? Are there any osteophytes or bone spurring? Is there any spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)? Is there any surgery that can be performed? The older you get the harder it is to recover. I have known many people who have had the surgery and recovered well.

There's a lot of other remedies to try before surgery. Ask your doctor. By the way, doctors do note it in your chart if you have drug seeking behavior.

Good luck!

IF you truly are suffering, They are in the business to make you feel better. and being in chronic pain for 20yrs-- you are taking next to nothing! that is about 1/2 of what i take for ONLY breakthru a day!!!

You dont have to go into details, but if you have truly TRIED to handle the amt given, it will be noted. and noticed! -they decreased your meds ASK FOR AN INCREASE

Also if you dont want to deal with the MEDS,
go for POOL THERAPY. There is nothing better! (in my opinion!) you get in the water and just soak it up! the warmth of the Water is very therapeutic!

How long have you been suffering, doesnt sound like its been to long, or you would be on stronger meds..(this of course may not be true, but experience is best teacher) and if after all the modalities of Pool therapy and physical therapy... and well have you had surgeries

I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST SOMETHING IF YOU HAVE HAD IT FOR A WHILE:

SPINAL COLUM STIMULATION-

I wont go into detail here but take a look.. BECAUSE I CHOSE TO GO WITH A STIM, MY MEDS ARE DOWN to what u are taking, just on breakthru

AT ANY RATE
1. keep a pain diary.
2. TEll him, next appt ! dont wait any longer especially if you are not feeling better

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY! if you cant ask him youself, ask your mom or friend to go with you..cuz you forget and get nervous

(i am 43 and i still have my mother go with me!!! lol)

just ask - it wont hurt- he could only say no!
