Report if you are a student, get married, get past 25 with no violations, keep making insurance payments on time. family discounts, car alarms, don't smoke. It depend on your insurance company, where you live, how long you've been driving and how old you are.

Always shop around for a quote, but really insurance only gets cheaper as you accommolate no claims discount and get older. My insurance realy started to drop once I reached 30 and had over 5 years no claims. Plus of course you could drive a 1 litre hair dryer.

The ways of reducing your car insurance are:
- Shop around. This is easy on the internet. All you need is a cup of tea and a couple of hours to spare. DO NOT EXPECT A LOYALTY BONUS from your current insurance company, they want to profit from people's lack of inertia.
- Look at the insurance group of your car. You may find it better to buy a less prestigious model, at least until you build up your no claims
- Do no include named drivers unless its really necessary
- Increase your voluntary excess (but only to the point where you can afford to pay it if you need to)
- Look at where you park your car, is it on a drive or in a garage? You might be able to rent a garage quite cheaply and keep your car in there to reduce your insurance premiums, particularly if you live in a hugh crime area
- Get a Thatcham Cat1 alarm and/or a tracker device fitted
- Do the Institute of Advanced Motorists test. This will prove to your insurance company that you are a better driver than the average Joe.
I understand how frustrating it is. I have over 8 years no claims, am over 30, yet my renewal quote each year always comes in higher than the previous year because they keep putting premiums up because the cost of repairs and personal injury claims keeps on rising.

Hello,
If you hold a full licence you could always sit an Advanced driving course, this can make you a better driver and in the process probably knock up to 30% of your insurance premium.
Also shop around and beware the Dart room Quoting system
I got my first insurance premium down from €3400 to €1700 by just shopping around.
thanks

Buy a car in a lower group.
Move to a lower-risk area.
Park it in a locked garage overnight.
Fit an approved alarm/immobiliser/tracking device.
Drive fewer miles per year.
Build up a no-claims discount (takes a few years)
Shop around for your insurance (use confused.com, try a local broker, check with the AA and RAC websites too).
