No.
No. No.
The tools are only a part of the end result.
It's like telling an author they could write better stories on a computer instead of a typewriter.
Here's a great read entitled "Why your camera does not matter":

A really bad camera can hurt you, but a really good photographer can overcome pretty much any handicap presented by bad equipment. You take the picture with your brain before you raise the camera to your eyes.
You could do different things with the D80 and see your results immediately, so it's still a good move. I learned a lot shooting "penny a frame," bulk loaded Plus-X and Tri-X, but digital is free once you own the equipment, so even a good photographer can pay attention to what he is doing and learn even more with a digital rig.

Hi There
A good camera is nice but a better lens for sharpness is more important. The most important thing is you. You are the photographer and you are taking the picture. Your camera is just a tool and the best thing is to learn how to use it properly.
Keep practicing and you’ll become more comfortable with your camera and with taking pictures. If you need extra help learning about photography and how to take better pictures, may a recommend a good short class that may help you a lot. It is the School of Photography and they are located near Yorkdale mall.
If you want to go to the web site it is www.schoolofphotography.ca
Good luck and happy shooting.

I am currently working on my MFA in photography as well as I am also a practicing commercial/fine art photographer and I concur 100% with the post above, anyone who says that you need an expensive camera to make great photos is full of it. If you want to be a better photographer go to art museums and look at lots of paintings and photos, understand basic design and art concepts: color theory, 2D design, etc... Some of the absolute worste photographers I know use the absolute most expensive equiptment, and conversely some of the best photographers I know use some of the most questionable and old equiptment. To elaborate on this idea go to this website and look at through the galleries and note that the people in this website are using photographic techniques that are 150years or older, most of the people here also are not using the latest greatest equiptment. http://www.alternativephotography.com/artists/artists.html

No absoultely not! I teach photography & have a master's degree in fine art (major photography) so trust me on this. You can take an awesome photo with just a tin can, a pinhole, cardboard, tape & some film....it's called "pinhole photography".
So anyone who tell you you must have a new, high tech camera is full of CRAP. It's the photographer's ability, commitment, creativity, and insight that makes a good image.

If a master carpenter was to use only a rusty saw to make a table, and if his newbie apprentice was to make another with the good tools, I may have difficulty in telling the different. But it is least probable that a non dexterous oaf will be able to do more than nail a few pieces of wood together, even if he had the best tools in the world.

Any one can take a good photo with any camera, what will get better is the image quality, and I seem to be in the minority today, because IMAO an otherwise good photo can be ruined by poor image quality. A bit like if a Beetles recording made with a Dictaphone etc!

Does a better pen make a greater writer? Cameras are only tools. It is the craftsman that creates the exceptional product with whatever tool used.

I've taken some of my best photos with a $19.99 plastic camera. Its not always the equipment, but the talent of the person using it. While its great to have good equipment, its not always necessary.
