I havent heard of to many cats ever leaving their babies for more than a short time before. All the ones we have ever had only left the box to go eat and potty and to stretch their legs. But I suppose that there could be a few cats out there just really hate the idea of being a mother and prefer not to take on all that responsibility and since there is no adoption agency for her to drop them off at they might just get up and leave. All of our cats that we have ever had were really good mothers. One time a mother cat and her daughter had kittens a day apart so I had one in one closet and the other one in the other closet. The mother had only 2 kittens and the daughter had 6 next thing I knew the mother had 6 and the daughter had 2. The mother was stealing the babies. Cats are usually so caring its hard to think that one would just leave her kittens but I guess it does happen. Why exactly I really couldnt say other than her not being mentally prepared.
