Practical activities which involve the person concerned in a physical way in the subject under discussion. It is a term frequently used in education. Hands-on learning provides learning by doing and thus helping a student to acquire knowledge and skills outside the range of books and lectures. Learning can occur through work, play and other life experiences.
Accomplished teachers include plenty of hands-on learning experiences, especially in science and maths, to ensure student understanding of new and unfamiliar concepts. Hands-on learning can also be used to drive assessment so that teachers can measure both factual knowledge and comprehension.

Depending upon which context you put it in, hands on activities is about activities that improve your hand eye co ordination or the dexterity of your hands. Kindy gartens use hands on activities like play dough or finger painting to teach the children different skills. Blind schools use hands on activities like brail to teach children texture, shape and identification and or course to read. Hope that helps you in some way.
