First of all, it is going to hurt him, there is no way around that. However, what doesn't kill him (and this won't) will only make him stronger. Don't play games just come right out and tell him that you don't think the relationship is working out and that it would be best to end it. Let him know that it was good while it lasted but it is time for both of you to move on. Let him know that you will be there for him as a friend and nothing more. If he really cares about your happiness, he will accept this despite his pain.

Hmm when i was in my 20's they all preferred to one day just stop talking to me. It was rare that someone would actually give a reason for anything.
If you dont want to be with him, just tell him that. If you leave a grey area its just going to string him along. Break it off and make sure there isnt a question about why you broke up. Its going to hurt, but theres no way to avoid that. The hurt has to come sometime. If he understands its over, the healing can begin right now.

Just be honest with him. Let him know that you care for him very much and don't mean to break his heart, but that he simply is not the one you want. There is no nice way to break up, but it is better to break his heart now than lead him on and make it worse later.

he isn't your type, is that your way of saying that you found someone who is? tell him that you want some time alone. then be alone for a little while. give yourself some time to heal, yes you will need that too. if you don't want to break his heart, then don't go out with someone eles for a little while.

well do what my girl done. after 2 years 1 month and suttin sahe just come out with it and said i dnt think this is going to work, i was like will we ever get back together and she was like no. so i was bare pissed off but i think you should try it. just say we cant do this anymore and all that. if you want when you split up with him come to me. safe.
