Is "butterfly" a masculine, feminine, or neuter word ? and does Russian people use the word "the" for nouns ?

Бабочка is feminine.
No, words for "the" and "a" are not used in Russian. So, "the butterfly is on a tree" is just three words in Russian - "butterfly on tree." That shows you something else: the verb "to be" is generally not used in such simple sentences, but the nouns decline into 6 cases sing. and 6 plural, so in the above example, "butterfly" would be in the nominative case while "tree" would be in the prepositional case.
