The bible does not disrespect women. It calls Mary "Hail full of grace the Lord is with you." These are the words of the angel to Mary when he announced that Mary would be the mother of the Redeemer. Elizabeth said,"How is this that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" This is the highest praise anyone can give a woman. The Bible calls Mary the Mother of God. In the Book of Revelation the Woman clothed with the sun and with twelve stars on her head will defeat the dragon. A woman will overcome a deadly dragon. This is respect not disrespect. The bible respects men and women because the bible teaches love. The woman caught in adultery was forgiven by Jesus. This is how Jesus loved men and women. He loved them and died for them. The name Eve means one who gives life. The sister of Moses saved him from dying. Moses freed the people from slavery with help from his sister. I guess there are more examples of ways that the bible respects women.

I think you've read the Bible out of context and obviously without the leading of the Holy Spirit.

To begin with, the Bible has a balanced account of what took place. You will also notice that where men have faltered, it is clearly noted. Examples would be David, Noah etc. Also there are female prophets like Mirium and Huldah and Deborra. You need to read the Bible before you critisize it.

Actually, the Bible has LOTS of respect for women. As far as Eve goes, please note that the Bible says VERY clearly that Adam was there with her, and he didn't stop her from eating the fruit.
The Bible NEVER says that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. That's a common misconception.

Do you have more examples?

Actually, there are many instances in the Bible that are highly respectful of women, such as the Book of Esther where she saves her entire nation from extermination. Also, if you consider that the first person to see Jesus after his crucifiction was Mary Magdalene and the women who went to anoint his body were to first to be told of the Resurrection, then you would also have to acknowledge the honor accorded them.

There were women who were prophetesses, healers and even elders of New Testament churches.... because of those things I can't honestly say that the Bible has no respect for women.

(And this answer coming from a Non-Christian folks....)

The Bible does have respect for women. Eve wasn't all bad. Ruth, Hannah, Elizabeth and Mary are just a few noble women described in the Bible.

The Bible was written by men who lived thousands of years ago(over 3000 for the Old Testament and almost 2000 for the New Testament ) and their work reflected their times. They might have been devinely inspired but they were products of their times the same way we are the products of ours.

Consequently, some of the views therein may sound sexist to you and me but I wouldn't conclude that it "doesn't have any respect for women". As others have already pointed out, there are examples of virtuous and illustrious women mentioned in both the Old and the New Testaments.

The original Christian Church was indeed sustained by both men and women. It did not become overly male-dominated until the Roman Emperor Constantine flip-flopped and highjacked a religion he and his predecessors had previously persecuted (to use it as an instrument of control). That guy must have been the one who inspired the saying "If you can't beat them, join them"!

THERE ARE MANY IMPORTANT WOMEN IN THE BIBLE

Rahab was also, and Jacob's daughter-in-law played one to be able to be with child.

Mariam, Deborah and Huldah were each a prophetess. Sarah, Rebecca, Leah, Rachel
and Esther all had an important role. Heb.11:1-40; 12:1-2;

The men weren't all saints either. Murderers, rapists, egomaniacs and adulterers.

You forget about Sarah, Ruth and Esther - not to mention Mary the Mother of Jesus.

The Bible is a collection of diverse characters.

Here's another good question. Many Christians say that the Old Testament is nothing now. So why do they use it in marriage ceremonies, such as woman being ruled by her husband and completely and unquestioningly obedient and mindful of him at all times? Why do they say babies that are not baptised are in hell and that all are sinners when that's from the Old Testament too? That occurred to me today when I was talking with my fiancee. He brought it up, as he is a recent convert to Islam.

Women are respected in the Bible. What you mean is: how can anyone believe in the Bible, when YOU don't believe in it?
