I am very shy in asking for what I need, so I've settled for a GP I don't like. I have Medicaid insurance, and not a lot of doctors take it. I've gone as far as getting a list of doctors who do, calling them, & leaving messages....but no one calls back.
Please help! I have a rare disorder of the nervous system, I'm in nearly constant pain, and I'm not getting the attention I feel my case deserves. It such an interesting case, I think it deserves some care.......not the county health department.

OK, here is what you do. I too have a rare disorder called Arnold Chiari Malformation, MS and also have had a broken neck so tell the doctor to refer you to a neurologist. A neurologist is trained to deal with anything to do with the CNS (central nervous system) and the brain. If the doctor does not do this then find another doctor and even go to the ER if you need to. Good luck and I hope that you are feeling better soon.

As for the drs' offices that don't call back call again and tell them that you need to speak to the nurse to ask some questions.

I don't know if they have a site like this in Australia where you can check out the education, complaints and such as they do here in the U.S. Check with the local chapter of the Victorian Medical Society (I think that's what they would call it in Australia) to see what kind of resources are available as far as checking creditenials and stuff.

I have a very complicated health situation as well and one of the first things I ask a potential GP thru their nurse is if the dr is comfortable with treating complicated cases. The most important question is about how good they listen. Yep, it's a big issue for people like us with complicated cases never knowing when there may be more of a connection with a general issue to the actual medical conditions that make the case so difficult.

I hope you find a good dr to help you out.

Ask around! Ask friends or family who they use and would recommend. Don't abuse the ER. They are for emergencies, you need a primary doctor not the er. I would just make appointments with different doctors and see what you think. Doctor's offices are busy so they probably have not had time to call you back. Don't let that affect you. Just go check them out and see for yourself.

hey, in south africa, we have plenty. but here's a good hint - check for local listings on doctors, find out where they studied, get there passing results, and the one with the highest marks will probably be the best.
