I can't solve this puzzle - pls help?

Question

Bhondhu John and Bindi Matthew were recently invited to a party attended by four other pairs of siblings, for a total of ten people. One pair of siblings arrived 30 minutes late for the party, while the rest arrived on time. During the party various handshakes took place, but no person shook their own hand or the hand of their sibling. It takes 30 seconds per handshake. The party started at 5 PM and ended at 9 PM. At the end of the party Bhindhu John asked each of the nine people present, including Bindi Matthew, how many different people they shook hands with, and was surprised to note that every number mentioned by each of the 9 people was different! How many hands did Bindi Matthew shake? No one left the party and apart from the 10 people originally invited , no other guest gate crashed the party. Bhondu John has a brother called Jim John and a sister called Jane John. Jim and Jane were also invited to the party, but could not attend due to medical reasons.

The question is : How many hands did Bindi matthew shake ?

Its got nothing to do with anyone being in the loo .......... Jeez

(1) 9 people , all shake hands with a different number of hand shakes, hence the only possible combination is 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 & 8.

(2) The only possible combination is :

Pair A = 8 & 0

Pair B = 7 & 1

Pair C = 6 & 2

Pair D = 5 & 3

Bhondu & Bindhi = 4 each

Answer = Bindi matthew shook 4 hands

(1) From the facts it is clear that Bhondhu & Bindi are not siblings , that means the party has 8 people ( 4 X 2 ) who had a sibling at the party & 2 people who do not have a sibling at the party.

(2) The number of handshakes range from a minimum of zero to a maximum of eight ....... 0, 1 , 2 , 3, 4 , 5 , 6, 7 & 8 ......... this is the only possible combination to arrive at a different number of handshakes for each person.

The use of the word "other" here implies that Bhondhu John and Bindi Matthew were, in fact, siblings.

And Bhondhu John and Bindi Matthew are not siblings.

bindi matthew didnt attend so the answer is zero but if you read it carefully bhindhu john asks this question not bhondhu which was at the party so bindi was with bhindhu not at party

Its impossible to tell. it only says that various hand shakes took place it doesn't say anything about who shook every ones hand or who only shook so and so's hand. Even after you sift through the useless information you still will not know how many hands anyone shook

he shook 8 hands not his hand or his brothers hand so its eight hands unless he shook 1 left hand and 1 right hand of each person so then it would be 16 hands shook

hmmm that's a good one if I sat here and thought about it I might be able to do it but it would require alot of thinking and that's just not something I'm good at right now lol good luck though let me know the answer

because apart from other information its clear that every person shook hands with others except their siblings.... so the question is confusing but it has all useless information
