In addition to the suggestions above, you should also take a tour of The Gamble House. It's a classic Arts and Crafts masterpiece by architects Greene and Greene...

after the tour you can drive around the neighborhood and look at all the glorious houses...really amazing.
Make sure you check out Old Town Pasadena for restaurants, bars and shopping. If you like to shop, there's a gigantic Forever 21 that will blow your ever lovin' mind. Also an H&M too which is quite popular.
You should check out the Ritz Carlton for tea or lunch or go to the spa there. It's a lovely hotel.
There's a great book called "Hometown Pasadena". You should get your hands on it...it's really great:

and for the best Pizza west of the Mississippi, you gotta go to Casa Bianca in neighboring Eagle Rock (5 minutes away from Old Town Pasadena).

The very first place in that area, in my opinion, is the Huntington Estate. Is a museum and gardens that will knock your eyes out. Strictly speaking it is not in Pasadena but not very far away. Another off the beaten trail is the Arabian Stallions in Pomona. Left by the Kellogg family and maintained by Cal State Pomona. Across the street from Santa Anita Race Track is the Baldwin Estate, another arboretum, if you have time go out to the West Side on Wilshire and see the La Brea Tar Pits. (I hate to say it that way since la brea and tar pits mean the same thing) English and Spanish.

Well you are close the L.A. so unless you don't have transportation anything in L.A. would be good for you if you are going to be there a week....I suppose you should see the Norton Simon Museum while you are there....but honestly there isn't a weeks full of stuff in Pasadena I would personally want to see...expand your horizons you're in L.A. after all. (I actually would like to see the computer lab over at Cal Tech, but I don't think they will let me in---LOL)..

Lucky Baldwin's Pub in Old Town. British food, great fish and chips - and good beers - many Belgian Ales - on tap. And a nice regular crowd.
