If you mean English is the most international language, that yes. Estimates say that about 800 million people know or have some competence in English all over the world. "Chinese" will never be able to replace it because 1) there are too many variants (mandarin, cantonese etc) 2) Ideograms and pronunciation require too big an effort to learn and remember this language if you are not Chinese and don't live in China.

The measurement, I guess, is not how many people speak the language. It should be how wide the language is used. English is the international language. Don't you think Chinese are now learning English because of the 2008 Olympics? How could they sell if people (English speakers) don't understand them? Remember, Olympics means business, too.

More people on earth speak mandarin chinese. But yes English is a global language.I don't know about spoken widely on all 5 continents, but it is used in international business dealings and by pilots and air traffic controllers.

No, you will find that almost 75% of the Human race speaks a language other than English, and considering that the vast majority of countries are in Europe and Africa, you will find more languages common to their native tongue than you would English.
The only continents that English would be Australia and North America.

Yes. it is the first foreign language that people all around learn and the reason for that is that it can be used with confidence in most countries with a reasonable economic stability.
