Friend, you have taken the first step... You accept there is a problem... I would suggest observing and then writing down your bodily, emotional and mental reactions related to 'going out'...
Just before you go, during you are out, after you are back from the 'out' . . .
You should be able to 'define' it.... It really helps a lot, no one person is the same as other and remember that professionals can help you if they only know what is happening to you... and since this is not bodily, only you can inform them...(and feel free to question them at times, since they have not gone through what you are going through, they can help as much as science can go far . . . ) Medication helps for sure . . . It will give you a kick-start . . .
Do not mingle with mysticism of any kind, only makes things worse . . .
Courage, patience, peace and love!!!

I too suffer from agoraphobia....and now I live the the most populous nation on earth, China...it is part of my self therapy. You do not cure it, but you can manage it. Start slow and easy. Go to the mall where there are many people, but no real reason to stay...walk around among the people and face your fear. You can always leave whenever you want, but make the effort to go. Go to smaller gatherings with the understanding you can leave when you want...I hope you are in therapy for this as well. But there is hope. I still have my old fears, but now I control them, they do not control me. When you face your fear, it disappears...I promise.

Try seeing a counselor or therapist. Agoraphobia is actually a symptom of Anxiety Disorder (which I myself have) and so far 6 months of therapy and a prescription for Zoloft have really helped me work on my Anxiety and associated symptoms, like agoraphobia.

The anticipation is the worst part, I'm sure once you get out there you are fine. The more you do it, the easier it will be. If you feel this is impossible, you would probably benefit from professional help.

I hate crowds too, but it isn't so bad. Get out and enjoy the world before it passes you by or Al-Queda blows it up.
