I am wondering if i shoudl put the gold metallic paint on afterwards or paint the whole thing (canvas ) gold first, then continue on with my painting, i dont know.
Just so you know, the gold leaf contains benzyne.

and benzyne will melt you brains, put it on last and in small amounts, wearing something to protect your breathing it...it is bad enough it will invade your eyes (eeek, the martians are comming!)
but you can paint over it...with artist oil...and it will work just fine if the gold has dried atleast 48 hours.

It seems that you would want to see the gold leafing, so painting over it would probably would not be all that good. Gold leafing that I have used in the past I applied with a dry paintbrush and I just flattened it over the surface by brushing. The gold leafing creates the texture, so it should go over the paint.

I like applying it on top of the paint. It is just adding detail to the painting, and those things are usually reserved till last.

depends if you want the gold to bleed though the paint or stand out on its on. if you want it to bleed through i would put it on first
