Why don't we just eat the original grains. A bowl of rice or corn in the morning for instance.

Also, would eating the original, non-processed grains be better nutritionally?

Actually eating the unprocessed grains would be less effective.
OK. I think you are wondering about the very processed against the milled grains.
The raw grains have coats that protect them very well. You likely notice that whole corn makes it through you relatively whole.
Raw dry corn would likely still sprout and grow after going through a human. Grinding and cooking are needed before we can get anything out of it.
Oats must be milled to break their protective coating. even wheat must be milled. we are not meant to eat raw grains.

Hot cereals (milled and cooked) are very good but who wants to take the time to cook them or to do the dishes. Time is money, etc.
So a bowl of super processed precooked sugar coated INSTANT cereal with milk and INSTANT juice or INSTANT coffee with a toasted slice of milled fine and precooked flour store bought INSTANT bread with synthetic edible oil butter substitute.

That is the order of the day.

The problem is not the companies pushing this stuff.

The problem is all the people accepting it.

Accepting the five second instant breakfast because they have no time for and can't afford anything else.
Time is money. Just it is not our money.

The unprocessed grains like rice, oats and wheat, although better nutritionally, are rock hard, and would take ages to chew and digest. Corn (maize) is the only one I can think of that you could eat raw in the bowl, but only if it is fresh. The only way to enjoy raw unprocessed cereal is to go out into the field and eat straight from the plant, then it's like eating nuts (personal experience).
People have processed cereals for breakfast because they're quick to prepare, eat and digest.

Thats a good product of advertising. They taste better also, and also for people on the go who have no time to make rice or corn its a good alternative. People are nutritionally illiterate for the most part and we give in to alot of cravings. I suppose that explains why when you go outside 80% of people have a flat tire.

Cereals are already cooked and ready to eat.
I do not eat cereals because of the sugars and other additives.
I eat plain (pre-cooked in the rice cooker) or fried rice (with onion and/or garlic) with fried eggs and other canned meat like corned beef, spam, etc. I also eat corn in the can because it is already cooked.
For me, the non-processed grains are better. I am as healthy as my children who like to eat cereals in the morning.
Try my breakfast recipe. It will only take you less than 15 minutes to prepare.
Good Luck!

We don't, my family eats cereal before bed... It is the night time food of champions !!

We eat rice and corn during the mid day & evening meals.

Of course anything not processed would be better for us but in todays world that won't be catching on anytime soon.

: )

Unprocessed grains do have more nutritional value, but processing makes them taste better, easier to digest, and more convenient to prepare.

it is a fast way to get fiber in your diet, but of course it is best to take non-processed food like corn on the cob, or a porridge
