I would think he is cheap, and not very eager to make a good impression.

If you had to pay the entire bill...then that is ridiculous. Cross him off your list. If you went dutch and split the bill...consider giving him another chance, but it's still iffy...
Paying on the first date is a good idea. Was it a really expensive place? Anyway, if it bothers you, which it must to a degree since you are posing the question, then reconsider seeing him again. Some girls may not mind it, but if you do, then that matters and his lack of chivalry can become problematic if you dated him.

Well maybe it means that he wants you to know that things will be equal in a relationship. But i do have to say that thats kind of akward. I mean i dont know if you should continue to date this guy. Unless you asked him on the date then you should pay. Whoever asks pays. But most likely you didnt ask so tell him your busy with school/work and that you dont have time for dating right now but you still would like to maintain a friendship wih him.

I'd understand. Some guys are just like that. I prefer that the guy pays on the first date because I'm a little more traditional, but it wouldn't bother me if we split the check. It WOULD bother me, though, if he expected me to pay the whole bill.

As it goes, if a guy asks you on a date HE pays. No splitting of the bill or you pay your own way. I'm an old fashioned guy and that's the way it is. Some of these young dudes get off cheap don't they?

well if the guy asks the girl out then he should pay. I always reach for my wallet and when he pays I say thank you... If I went on a first date and he didn't pay I wouldn't go out with him anymore...its rude. I am willing to pay on a future date though.

Guys should offer to pay, but if she really insists that you split the bill, split it because some girls dont like the feeling that they owe a guy something.

When a guy INVITES you on a date the "offer" to pay for your meal is implied. If he can't be "up front" and honest about not wanting to pay and springs it on me at the reastaurant I would just simply get up and walk out. Leavning just him there to pay for it all anyway. You don't INVITE someone to go with you and then expect them to pay.

If he expected me to split the bill, I might actually consider him for a second date. I hate it when guys offer to pay for everything. It offends my sense of equality to no end.

A first date? Personally, I would prefer it that way... we each pay our own meals, that is.
