wow... hahaha... no, it is Not over polite, as a matter of fact, I would consider it rude otherwise...

Not sure what you mean by the "hi" statement? ... do you say 'hi'? to them when they pass you?... If so, maybe 'pardon' would suit a situation as so better, some people might take it as a flirtatious thing to do, as this day and age, guys or men, in general have gotten way too presumptuous in their ways, so it makes it more of aggravation rather than politeness to women sometimes, because it can be hard to counter "politeness" sometimes to "trying to hit on her" ... It is soo super frustrating... So I believe, maybe "hi" is a bit to forward, they might see it as a beginning of a line or something, for these reason, try just words like 'pardon', or 'good day', 'excuse me', or words or phrases in this sense.

Don't worry, it isn't too much, it is the polite and right thing to do, we need More of it.

Well not that I have to clear this up or anything but I am NOT gay, but when I see a good looking ´chica´ passing by I get out of the way too, smile, walk by turning my head to focus on her butt, the WHOLE DARN TIME, and say Hi, if I feel like it. Maybe somebody might think I am gay for doing that, but hey, potato potato.

Being polite has become the exception to the rule. Now days anything, "uncool", is made of fun of or called Gay.

By the way, it is always appretiated by me when I see another Gentleman. Keep it up, let's show that we still exist:D

To say hi to a stranger in some situation, if you don't know her you may scare or embarass her. But if you've know her for ages then Hi is just the beginning of a conversation.

Society is changing, which is sad. No, it's not gay, it's gentlemanly. It's good to see that some people are still gentlemen. Women do like it, a lot!

Apparently good manners are so rare that they have become unusual. Keep up the good work! My husband was the same as you, and quite a few of his dates, thought he was peculiar. I knew that I had found a gem....
Don't let them discourage you!

I don't see how that can be "gay" or "too polite."

it's just plain old good manners, like keeping a door open for people to walk through.
