22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell,[a] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

25"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

27"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let

For those of you who don't like the question, here's a NEW idea for you, don't give your answer. Go answer a question you like. Your telling me to NOT use the Bible at the R&S site is like telling pizza hut to stop making pizza because you prefer peanut butter sandwiches.

Jesus told this story as a parable, not as a literal happening. If we want to take this story as literal, then you are telling me that Lazarus was in hell in torment and still yet he was able to hold down a conversation? And if he was in hell, burning, surely he would know that the tip of Abraham's finger would not quench his thirst. Last but not least (because there is much to say on this subject) If you are taking the story literally then you are saying that all the people who have money are doomed to hell, while only the poor go to heaven. Hell is nothing more than the grave. The torment is separation from God.

I love to read too, and what a drama this bible is! Great story I mean really someone should write a screenplay on it. My thoughts...... who were these people so long ago that could see into the depths of such fantasy like places and do magic from their finger tips and so on.

Everyone sits down to a grand feast to begin the year. Harry is overwhelmed by the variety of luscious food served. Sir Nicolas de Mimsy-Porpington, the resident ghost of Gryffindor (popularly known as Nearly Headless Nick because of a botched decapitation), introduces himself to the first-year students and tells them he hopes they will win the house championship this year. Over dessert, the discussion turns to the children’s upbringings. A student named Neville tells how his family thought he was a Muggle until he survived a fall from a window. Harry glances around the room and notices a few of the teachers talking to one another. One of them stares malevolently at Harry, who immediately feels a sharp pain in his forehead scar. Harry finds out that this man is Professor Snape, who teaches Potions. After dessert, Albus Dumbledore, the head of Hogwarts, gets up to make his welcome speech. He adds a few warnings about staying away from the Forbidden Forest and avoiding the third-floor corridor on the right side of the school. Everyone sings the school song and goes off to his or her house.
So what are your thoughts on this story?

I have a book that concurs with that. It's called, Vine's Expository Dictionary. In that book it goes into the word 'Sheol'. It says that Hell is a place of conscious existence and torment. And that's from the Hebrew word. In my years I have spent on messaging on the bulletins around the internet, I have found that typically the Jews doubt this. They are under the impression that Christian Hell differes from the Hebrew version of it. This book is evidence contrary to that popular Judaic thinking.

My thought is that you should go join a bible study to discuss these sorts of things and not bombard us with bible verses!!!!! Personally I think it is very rude! Please bear in mind that not everyone who comes to Y! answers believes in the bible!

Are you really so brainwashed that you are incapable of independent thought?

My thoughts are, there is no hell. Men made that up to control the weak minded and the easily controlled and led.
