Fear of God makes one wise. I don't understand how it is that people ask questions or give answers that are so offensive to God.

Unbelievers, what if you are wrong about God? What if He gets tired of your aweful remarks and decides to make an example of you? Doesn't the thought of that put some fear in your heart and mind?

"It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."
(Hebrews 10:31)

let me re-state the point............
Many questions/answers from unbelievers have are nasty, mean and offensive to God. Calling God mean names does nothing except prove how evil of a mind one has. Shouldn't there at least be enough respect for others, and at least a slight consideration of WHAT IF God does exist, will He not smite you for your aweful, insults to His name???????

The world by wisdom knew not God.

For the things of God are foolishness unto men.

YOU HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN YOU, SO YOU ARE ABLE TO BELIEVE. UNBELIEVERS ARE NOT ABLE TO BELIEVE, THEY ARE LIKE NICODEMUS WHO SAID "HOW CAN I BE REBORN??? DO I ENTER MY MOTHER'S WOMB A SECOND TIME??"
The only thing an unbeliever can understand is the gospel of salvation, if they accept it---they will fear God. If they reject it they will no more fear God, than you would fear the easter bunny.

I do not live in fear of my gods and goddesses. I think fear may play too great an influence in your spiritual life. What do you fear? Punishment? Damnation? If you are batized you shouldn't fear Hell. Why would you worship a being that might harm you without first having some clues about what you're doing wrong? Sounds like praying to an abusive drunk father. You should try to figure out why you feel that way and do something about it. Spirituality should never be about fear. The 'hell-fire and brimstone' days of the Puritans is long over. The Puritans believed that God determined one's Eternal Fate before that person was ever born and he or she could do nothing to avoid or alter His decision. I don't think many people see God this way anymore. Maybe it's the whole premise? The One True Faith that makes all other spiritual expressions False and Paths to Damnation? That's not really, really extreme way to view human spirituality, is it? Blow yourself up on a plane full of people extreme? Maybe it's how some of your faith pray for the end of the world? They want Jesus to come back soon. Jesus's return marks the end of the world. All life will be destroyed and everyone who has ever lived and not joined your particular faith will meet Torment Everlasting? You might consider that your faith is an evil death cult. Seriously, man, add it all up.

What is there to fear? If God is loving and merciful and just, then every one without exception will get what they deserve. If there is no God, there is still nothing to fear, because there are no consequences.

Does every person have the same intelligence? Didn't Jesus say, "Let him who has ears to hear, listen"? You may be able to explain your beliefs to someone, but that is no guarantee that they will understand you. Are they to be punished for lacking intelligence, which they had no control over? Are you responsible for your ability to understand, or is intelligence a gift? Jesus didn't condemn people that did not understand. He distributed His mercy to everyone, without exception. If He payed the price of your sins, then He paid the price of everyone's sins. Isn't that what you believe? Why, then, should anyone fear?

On the day Jesus died, there were people living a thousand miles away who had never heard of Him. Some of those people died that very day, as well. Were they forgiven their sins by Jesus? What happened to those generations living after He died, but before those people heard of Him?

Who said that it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God? Did God say it? Did Jesus say it? Or, did some ordinary person say it? Who are you quoting? If it is dreadful, then why do people want to see God after they die? We ALL fall into God's hands. God kills everyone.

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe these people don't believe in God? Why spend all of their time being terrified of something they don't believe in?
Also, is that the reason to believe in God? Fear of hell? Try to think objectively about the whole situation and you'll have a much deeper understanding of why they do what they do. If you had been born in Iran there's about a 95% chance you'd be Muslim right now. If you'd been born into a Jewish family you'd probably be Jewish. Someone that grows up without religion probably will stay that way.

What if you're wrong about God and find out you've wasted your life being controlled by beliefs not founded in any sort of evidence whatsoever? Wouldn't that make you wish you'd had more fun? There's most likely no purpose to life except enjoyment. There's way more evidence for atheism than for Christianity so I don't see why any unbelievers have any reasonable cause for fear.

I fear many things, but God is not one of them.

Who can prove that one religion is more real than another? Incredible claims create a burden of proof, and nobody has proven anything about the existence of any deity.

If I am wrong for not believing in any of the 8,000 gods and goddesses that humanity has concocted over the centuries, then I would love to know. Skepticism is about broadening your horizons by accepting evidence. But faith is about believing in the absence of evidence. If god struck me dead, I would die with a smile on my face, because it would allow me to improve my understanding of the world.

My choice is one of reason, not of audacity. I hate nothing but ignorance.

Fear is not a normal state for humans and if there is a God he doesn't want you to believe in him out of fear. If you believe the bible he wants you to love him not fear him. Fear doesn't make anyone wise it makes you compliant. It makes you afraid to think for yourself for fear you'll make the "wrong" choices. Making wrong choices is how people learn. The lessons you learn through mistakes are the ones that stick with you.

First of all as an unbeliever I don't even consider having fear in something I don't believe in. Second of all how can it be wise to have a fear in something that has never been proven to exist in the first place. A wise person does not believe in feelings and blind faith, they believe in true logic and reasoning. Don't be jealous that there are just people out there that have adapted further in intelligence than you.

In what way does the fear of something make you wise? Fear has been used, and is currently being used by everyone from the president and media to your local minister to make you dumb. Fear of fact makes you not read about what is actually happening all around you. Lies about literature makes people have opinions about books and movies without ever seeing them. Dismissing the fact that there might not be a God is proof that you are being duped by the greatest scheme machine in history.

If the fact that science is where I choose to base fact is a problem, and I choose to say God does not exist, at least as a white male ruling the universe through a mortal son who died and then somehow became immortal, you will have to pardon me.

The fact that in 25 years, because of global warming, 90% of life on the great barrier reef will be dead, is based solely on science, and it scares the hell out of me. Not because of the fact that it is going to happen, but because people like you still choose to believe in archaic mind controlling rhetoric like Jesus and God to be more important than doing something about the facts of science. As if a God would want you to ignore the world and praise him instead.

But what do you care... as long as you go to heaven?

I would rather be ruled by love than by fear. Usually those who are ruled by fear grow to hate the object that they fear. Why would I wish to hate God if I adhere to this formula as you say? Hate is pointless, so fear is pointless. Invoking the fear card with respect to God is tantamount to threatening hellfire and damnation. It only works if you can instill fear, and then the worship is not genuine but done under duress.
