Or do I have to sit up right? Is it bad for my eyes? How bad? Would turning on a lamp help a bit? It gives a bit of light but it is still dark.

It's bad for your back and neck depending on how you are laying in bed. More light on is always better for your eyes but I am afraid I am guilty of doing the same thing. I seriously doubt I will change my practice either since I am doing it to get sleepy and relax. Good question!!!

It's perfectly safe unless you mind having your brain eaten by a zombie. Then it's very dangerous.

evrerything is bad for you , we are all gonna die anyhow. So watch it in the dark if you like.
