Bound's hubby here:

This is a project I do not suggest that you take on. I would strongly suggest that you purchase a mil-dot air rifle scope. You will be more successful and spend less money in the long run.

Before you start this project, you will have to do the following:
1. chronograph your rifle
2. compute the ballistic co-efficient of your projectile
3. calculate the projectile trajectory.

Then you will be able to determine your hold-over points. Then you have to calculate how much adjustment in thousandths or ten-thousandths of an inch of hold-over for your cross-hairs. Then you need to disassemble your scope which is under gas pressure. Then you would remove the cross-hair assembly which is very delicate. The cross-hairs are finer than your body hair. You would then have to attach dots at the appropriate place on the stadia cross-hair. You would then have to reassemble your scope replacing the seals and fill and pressurize the scope.

There is a company called Lee-Dot that performs this work and charges about $35 a dot. You are taking on more than you should.

Good luck.

I agree with Bound, above.
Thats a job best left to someone with several engineering degrees and a life-sentance in a machine shop.
The cost of materials would rapidly pass the cost of actually buying a sight.
Walmart sells a Tasco 30mm red-dot scope for 29.95 and a 40mm for 39.95. If you look closely at the soldiers M-4 carbines on T.V., you'll see that quite a few of them mount these exact same sights. That's plenty of authenticity for 30-to-40 dollars.
