You can only have it activated on one computer at a time. When you install Vista, it connects to the MS servers to activate. At that point it checks to see if that serial number has been used. If it has, it won't activate a second time. If your Vista isn't activated then it will only work for 30 days. After that it will delete your desktop icons and your start menu and will only allow you to connect to MS to purchase a legal copy.

MS says that you can install it on a second computer if it's uninstalled from the original. This is because the software interprets major hardware changes as being a new computer. So if you have it installed and add a new video card, sound card and hard drive, Vista thinks it's being installed on a different computer, and will allow this only once.

if your copy is an OEM version the 1st pc that you register will be the one that can be use full while on the 2nd pc you cannot register that and you will recieve a promt that you have to register in a certain number of days or your computer will be lock down, but if you have a full version there should not be a problem.

Do a dual boot with UBUNTU instead. It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.
