I am on windows ME right now-7 years (same as 98 ).If you have reinstalled 98.....The code is your BIOS telling you the hard drive,I know...memory...NO, virtual extended driver...vmm32.vxd is a part of 98..Go to www.helpwithwindows.com.I think I was wrong with the hardware...yahoo search, you will find the site,software,98.This is new to me!!!I ran 64 memory until the last year,192 now,128 memory if functioning is not the problem.

VXD driver issues to not go away with OS install. You will need to do a clean install. win9x OS is not secure and is often rooted and converted into spam bots.

Try Ubuntu -- its free and supports windows software with some work.

maybe some of your driver was not supported by windows 98.
my advice: uninstall your windows 98, and install windows XP SP2.
But, you need upgrade your memory to at least 512MB.

Your problem is that you own a awful pc...in case you had a Apple workstation that would not in any respect ensue. Apples do not get spy ware, spyware and viruses. unload your crappy pc and purchase a real workstation. there is no restoration.

Sounds like either a hard drive problem or one of your memory simms are bad.
