I fell in love with my best friend at age 16.5. DON'T DO IT. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU. A real relationship is what you want, but you want it with a guy who you absolutely adore and get along with. It shows maturity. Do not lower your standards and high school is so young to be in love. My first love ended horribly. Just have fun and do not worry about relationships yet. They take so much energy. You do not need a guy to validate yourself as a young woman.

I went to an all-boys high school and found my first love when she was 16 and at an all-girl's high school. I was 17 at the time. That was long ago. Since then I have had many loves. What I have learned, and it took me a long time to learn this, is that relationships always come along, always happen, and will last as long as you work at them and want them to last. If you haven't found "him" yet, you will. I would suggest you don't focus on having a relationship for the sake of having a relationship. Instead, enjoy dating, enjoy going out with guys and if one of them strikes your fancy, and you feel this is important, that's great. And if this doesn't happen right away, it will sooner or later. This may not be much comfort now but believe me, relationships are just waiting to happen for you. Good luck.

Love is complicated. You really have to let it happen on its own, and it never does when you expect it. I'm 22 and still haven't been in love with a guy. I know guys find me attractive and I've casually dated tons, but love just hasn't happened for me. And in high school when I had bad luck with guys, I always thought, "Well college will be different." But I'm graduating college this year and it wasn't different at all. But I definitely don't think you should lower your standards. It is important to have common ground and similar values with a person you are in a relationship with... so I'll keep waiting. And I know the waiting will make it even more special when it happens.
Good luck to you!

I’m currently in college and I still have not had what you may call true love. I’m a guy by the way, freshman, college. My advice to you is wait, many of the relationships that your friends have are not formed of true love, they are merely based on physical attractions, or “crushes”. At the age of sixteen you should be more focused on studying. Be happy with yourself; fulfill your needs and wants. If you are not happy with yourself, then when the right guy comes along, you won’t be happy. Don’t expect a boyfriend to change your life, you first have to change it and be happy with it, so that when he comes along, you’re able to incorporate him into your life and be happy with him. Otherwise you will be too dependent on him, and that’s when things begin not working (you feel like you can’t function without him). Nevertheless I bet that you are a beautiful girl, and the right guy will come along. Just please, don’t fall for the first guy you see, many guy’s at that age are willing to tell you anything to you get to, well you know how that story goes. Anyways, don’t follow trends, be yourself. I know that at that age, having a boyfriend seems to be everything but you have to do what your heart tells you to do. As I was saying, true love, I don’t really know how it feels. You know that it is a crush and not true love, when you imagine, would I still love this person if he/or she were permanently scarred or unable to walk, would you care for them, is it true love, etc. Oh, and please do not lower your standards, “that is funny, and honest, cute, smart...and just perfect for me”, if you lower this standards I think you’ll get a boring thief that is ugly and mentally stupid. LOL

I was first in love at 16, but I am in college now as a senior, and most people haven't found someone they love... wait it out, when you finally get to college (if you decide to go), there are sooooooooo many more people you meet! Wait for the right person, it will be worth it!
