if your using a curling iron then right before spray a good strength hairspary in one of your brushes and run through your hair before you curl, not too much or it will cause product build up on you curling iron. then use a light spray of curl inhancing hairspray. it wont feel like a lot of hairspray and will hold good

mousse and hair creme/hair moisturiser. an anti-frizz usually helps, too.
I only have my hair permed. I've had straight hair all my life until the other year. I've learned that curly hair, especially permed's, are usually product dependent.
a couple of side notes: a guy wearing his hair up, in a bun - quite a refreshing look. And products with lots of alcohol, try to keep them at a minimum.
though, it really depends on a few things: length, if it's naturally curly, if it's permed hair. Here's what you can do early during the day, right after bathing. Works best if you conditioned, too. When you've set, wear it for a couple of hours. I tried it out on a Friday - went to school, my hair up.
1) load up on moisturiser/hair creme.
2) gather your hair as if you were to tie it up in a ponytail. instead of tying it up (though you could already), twist until you can twist no more and then mousse up.
3) twist it up into a bun (a folded ponytail would work, too).
4) blow dry - please use the diffuser. Always.
I wore the bun pretty much the whole day. But within an hour works, too. I wonder how this will work on naturally wavy/curly hair.
5) when you take your hair down, moisturise again. And if you think you can squeeze in a bit of hairspray time, do so. arrange your curls and spray away. Moisturise once in a while, especially if it's gonna be an all-nighter (which usually ends at someone's flat for breakfast and still you're not quite done partying).
Every step of the way is completely worth it. The compliments I got when we went out to party for the weekend - really went to my head. Don't be surprised if you turn heads.

I'm not sure if its going to work if you want your hair to stay the whole day without too much spray. I used to curl my hair using a hair curler, and to make it stay the whole day, even under a strong breeze, I use lots of hair spray on it. You need to wait for the spray to dry before steeping out of the house or the curls would be ruin by the heat or wind anyway. The curls look good even with the heavy hair spray, BUT it can feel very stiff should you touch them with your hands. So if you are going to have your bf touching your hair or something, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you just want your curls to look good and stay in place all day, then its alright to give the hair spray a go.

Use a styling jell when you set your hair in rollers. When you roll your hair hold the hair tight. This gives it a slight stretch and when it dries it contracts and hold the curl harder.
Style your hair and use a medium hold non-aerosol spray in your hair. the results are remarkable!

use rollers instead of a curling iron. when your hair dries into a position it holds longer than when you heat it into position because of the bonds that you change...
