I believe that biking is a generally better mode of transportation. Faster, more efficeient, and cooler than walking. Buy a cheap a bike and a good lock off of craigslist, and you're good to go!

Hello,
As the above poster said, they are both aerobic activities, however one, walking, doesn't require any investment beyond what Gd, evolution (or whatever, I don't want to rile any feathers ;p) gave you.
On the other hand, biking can be a competitive sport, it can be a hobby, it can be a mode of transportation, and all are equally legitimate uses for a bicycle -- just remember, the canon of the cycling forums appears to be this: Don't buy a bike from Wal-Mart, they sell "toy bikes". I'd recommend if you live in a place which has a lot of users on craigslist.com (or a local used website where you can find used bikes) to buy an used bicycle, they're affordable, and some can be real steals.
I'm really getting ahead of myself here. First of all, if you're going to use the bike for anything other than a few paces, certainly look into buying an ATB or, if you're going to want to hit the trails, buy a mountain bike. Disregarding all of this and hoping only to go from one city destination to another (only on pavement) go for a road bike.
Hope this helps,
Av
PS. Feel free to message me at any time, I'd be willing to show you a few places where I've found help and starting places to buy a bike.

Walking is good for raising your heart rate quicker and walking will burn more calories if you're walking at an accelerated pace.
But, if you're headed to campus, cycling will get you there faster.
For me, I bike to campus, and then walk to classes after I'm there.

Both are aerobic exercises. So, it is good to do either.
Make sure you reach the campus on time. So, keeping the distance in mind, please choose the right mode of transport.

I always bike rather than walk - it's faster and it keeps me in shape for when I do longer rides.
