Really....it could be dangerous to be answering a serious medical question with no knowledge or background in medicine.
For instance someone asked about drinking grapeftuit juice with a certian medication. Some dude said it was ok. What does he know? What do you think?

Hopefully people are smart enough to take all this as advice. I understand some people are speaking from experience but there is no two people the same. What your experience was like doesn't mean that's what happens for everybody. It could hurt even kill people. People need to realise before they answer these questions they really have to have some knowledge not just experiences. A lot of people do go by what someones answer is, they are trusting you with a very important situation in their life or someone elses. Over all I agree with you, you can't say it's "OK to.......". If it's suggestion than state it as one.

I hope it wasn't drinking grapefruit juice with methadone, because I read today that it really can kill you. There was a news story about it.

Yes, I think that answerers need to make sure others know that they aren't a professional. And, that even professionals cannot properly diagnose via internet.

Conversely, I think the askers need to use common sense. They need to realize that the answers are primarily opinions of others with a few life experiences thrown in here and there.

So, yes, regarding medical issues....we all need to try to be as responsible as possible. If you are not a professional, tell the asker! And, if you are an asker....realize that you need to see your doctor for any treatment needed. Yahoo Answers cannot be your stand in physician.

Actually not a bad question, although i think those asking are just as liable as those answering. google is wonderful, but i agree i dont know how seriously ppl take the suggestions/answers to heart. im a pharmacist so i do try to only answer what i know, and the grapefruit thing..aww..what what was the medication cuz there are way too many that interact. and for the other gentleman who recommended the grapefruit w/ the xanax, i think you should try it yourself, see how sick u get and then recommend to others :)

Maybe he is qualified and you just don't know it. Besides, I don't think people come to yahoo for serious medical advice. Besides, if enough people say the same thing then it's likely to be good advice and worth looking into further. I have a colostomy and I prefer advice on colostomy appliances from people who actually use the products much more than medical experts who don't and rarely know about the products.

Yes, I think it is wrong to answer a medical question without having any medical experience or backround. It might be very dangerous. However, it is also partially the questioner's fault, as he/she is refering to the wrong sources for the answers. The person should be consulting a doctor, not random people on Yahoo answers. And anyways, I do not think the person who answered had any wrong intention, he/she probably thought it really was okay. Hope I adequately satisfied your question.

I agree with you.

Although I am quite sure that many give advice on here with the best intentions, and are relaying possible personal experiences, that may not apply with every case.

Certain foods, medicines, etc can negatively interact with one another causing even life threatening situations.

The best advice to give someone is to seek proper medical attention to those trained to diagnose their conditions.

Well, unfortunately most here do not have any formal medical training. And I don't know if you've looked at the men's health section and seen how serious they all are about their problems over there.
Some of us have had some form of medical or phy/H education and can give educated answers. I recommend webMD however...

i think u gotta take these answers with a grain of salt or however u say it lol. I mean for realz u shouldnt take these as solid anwers. i think they're meant as guidelines. and as for some people answering pretty heavy questions--i think some people have actual expierence with these and may kno a thing or two...either through expierence first hand or maybe they're with someone who actually knows....

all in all some people kno what theyre talking about when they answer. yet u cant rely on this and cannot take ur answers seriously...they're just meant as advice not actual doctor checkups. there are people out there who are just mean and say crappy things and thats the negative side of the yahoo answers......thats my view...

i don't think most people are meaning any harm. they are just trying to help others. i agree, none of the info given here should replace real medical advice, but sometimes people can give some good suggestions on how to handle some things.
