it is an honest depiction of life...all things that are true are most often unacceptable but life is like that, we can't be self-conceited by wishful thinking that we are living in a better world, from morocco to mexico to the states and japan, what else can i say? nice film by bernal, i'll rate it 8 out of 10.

They weren't trying to show how it was wrong.

Inarritu's common goal with all his movies is to show that we all make choices in life that often result in tragedies. (He also appears to love presenting scenarios where the decisions of adults affect the lives of children.....)

In this case, the illegal worker chose to return to Mexico temporarily, then tried to enter again with american children that didn't have the proper documentation.

She was deported, which was a tragedy for her. In many cases, the family that does the hiring is also sad when they lose a long-term nanny. Legal or not, they become attached (in the movie, she had raised them since their birth).

However, in the movie, the nanny ultimately made a choice to risk the lives of the children, so the parents were probably not sad to see her go.

As far as the actual illegal issue happening in the USA, I can say that there are way too many, and they should be sent back, but it will destroy many people. Not just the immigrant, but also consumers and employers.

That, in fact was innaritu's message....the illegal worker should have considered the fact that she could be deported at any time. (she cried to the border patrol that she had made a life here...she rented a house, etc....)again a typical inarritu scenario where she not only made a choice years ago to risk her future by coming illegally, but also made a conscious choice to be deported by taking american children over the border into Mexico.

I saw it and didn´t like it but I didn´t think it made kicking an illegal out seem wrong. The movie attempted to make the audience sympathize with Adriana Barraza (the actress who played the housekeeper, I can´t remember her name in the movie) but it also showed that she regretted what she had done and realized that she had no choice but to go back to Mexico, no matter how long she had been living in the US. She had committed an unforgivable crime for abandoning the children in the desert and the parents were kind enough not to press charges even though their kids could have died and it would have been her fault.

Most movies and TV have some kind of political message behind them -- this one was no different. Choose your movies and TV wisely.

Corporations run America -- America is not a nation anymore but rather an economic zone run by big business. Movies and TV are owned by big business. Thus the political agenda of big business (need for cheap labor) will show up in the media.

I'm not quite sure what you found disgusting...Showing empathy for someone elses situation? It didn't exactly portray the Mexican's in a holier than thou light, especially the nephew who abondoned the nanny in the desert with two young children...

i think illegals should be kicked out of EVERY country! That movie was weird. How about that part where the 8 year old was whackin it thinking of his sister? WEIRD! But yeah....illegals are horrible afflictions on ANY society, and they should be returned to their country of origin!

No, I didn't see it and I probably won't if "it makes kicking out an illegal seem wrong." Not my kind of movie. Kick 'em ALL out! If they really want to come here, they can show they respect us and our laws by coming here legally. Welcome to all LEGAL immigrants! No amnesty, ever again! Didn't work before and won't work again!
