In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I don't think that the demons or Satan for that matter are subtle in the least these days. Let's look at the all the psycho killers, street gang violence, prejudice and general lack of good morals all around you today. Men fathering babies and then taking no responsibility for them. Why would you not consider these occurrences to be caused by demons? Demons and Satan are more overt in these times then day in Biblical times. People are more accepting of them now.
God is more subtle now because He gave His son to be the connection between us and Him. He doesn't have to send plagues or floods to cleanse us of our sins, we just have to seek Jesus.
If you actively seek Jesus to be in your life and to fill your heart then you will see more miracles everyday.

I don't think they are subtle at all. If we just watch the daily news we can see that they are alive and well and very busy. Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy. We see those three things occurring every day. We see it happening on skid row, with every bank robbery, every time someone kills somebody, when a child's life is stolen by a molester, whenever a family is destroyed by an adulterous affair, when a life is cut short by a drunken driver, etc. These are all things that happen because of the principalities and powers of the devil. His influence on people. It's pretty obvious, don't you think?

The spirits and demons use to manafest themselves to Jesus and his apostals because they recognized them as servants of the Father and the Son. Their is far more possession than people know, Their is different degrees of possessions. Like the man in the tombs who was possessed by legions of demons, they begged christ not to send them into the abyss. It is a place of punishment for fallen Angels. Theirs a lot more, good question.

Satan spent a lot of time doing God's dirty work in that Bible. It was a lot easier to convince ancient peoples of magic and mysticism than it is now. If someone changed water into wine, we would assume they added a powder. If someone walked on water we would put it on A&E...oh wait...

Yes there are demons and satans. They are presently misguiding you and tempting you to do bad things. God is also guiding and helping those who believe Him that is why they do not tend to hate you in spite of what you are doing.

According to the Qur'an, satan lies in wait on those who are on the straight path (worshipping God and nothing else.)
Satan doesnt care about those who dont worship God, because they have already submitted to him, and in the time we live in, worshipping God is the last thing on most people's minds.
