I was 6 when I was allowed to cook unattended at the stove but with someone still in the house. I made mac & cheese.
I was 14 when I started cooking professionally in a restaruant.

I could cook "real" meals at a young age, maybe somewhere between 8-10. But I didn't begin to rely solely on my own cooking until I was about 17.

I started cooking when i was about 7, just helping my mum with small things. Then i used to help my mum with making dinner. Now i sometimes cook meals on my own for her which i began when i was 12. I have always found cooking really fun and exciting. It's something i cant wait to do.

I was 22, newly married and pregnant.
Before then, I "specialized" in eggs sunny-side up and Ramen noodles.
After getting married, I bought a cook book and learned how to cook. Soon, I learned the basic parameters of recipes (how long things have to cook and what goes together).
Then, I quit reading cook books and just made up my own recipes.

When I was about 14, my Mom and I would cook meals together. We really liked vegetables and would have a meal of all veggies and we loved it. I have been making desserts since I was about 11. Desserts are my weakness.

I'm 48 now. When I was about 16 or 17, I started cooking simple things like omlets and muffins. But it wasn't til I was around 26 or 27 that I got into things like eggplant parmesan, tuna noodle casserole, chinese stir fried rice, etc..... Now I cook all the time and love it!

When I could actually use the stove unattended and cook for myself?
I think I was about 8 or 9 years old.

I was 8. I would fry eggs and bacon, make toast, spread butter and strawberry jam, percolate coffee, put out a place setting for my grandfather, and pour coffee and juice. If my grandmother did it, he would complain that the coffee was wrong, the toast was burnt, the bacon too limp, the eggs ruined, and the juice was sour. At 8, I was the best coffee maker in his world, at 12 my dad told me I would make some man an excellent wife since I made the best cup of coffee he ever laid his lips on.
Of course, I would wind up marrying a man that can't stand coffee. ;)
