Get a teaching certificate. If things are going rough on the performing side of the house, teach for awhile. If performing is going well, cut back or eliminate your class load. You could also teach long distance and do both.

in this day and age, probably not. Arts management might be a (side) step in the right direction, where you can be close in and still indulge a wonderful hobby of your own.
The major feat to accomplish is figuring out what comfortable means. I know many single performers ( as in, no family responsibilities) who enjoy the travel ling life-style. I always knew kids and family were important to me, so I settled for a slightly lesser job ( opera chorus instead of solo) that gave me better security, if less pay, in order to be greedy and enjoy both.
If and when you are "in the biz" please make sure you indulge yourself with a good stress and exercise program: Yoga, Tai Chi, etc. in order to help you maintain the balance between the wacky world of show biz and reality.
Best wishes

go to a school where you can major in something else that can help you bring in the bucks but which also has a great theatre program for you to get involved in or minor in. Study theatre production, fundraising, event planning, producing, directing, management, etc. so that if you cant find theatre work the jobs you can get will also give you inroads into the industry. its better than waiting tables, and even if you're fabulous, you are going to have to supplement your income at some point.

Pray and ask God to give you favor and ask others to pray for you. God answers the prayers of the righteous. The Bible says we do not have because we do not ask; ask God...the Christian musical/performing arts industry is awesome. Check out TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) I think they have a reality music competition...God meets all our needs.

I pray God's will for your life;
