I get a lot of abuse for leaving England but I don't really get why. Why don't English people agree with people emmigrating?

could it be jealousy?
I find my folks don't want to hear about my new sports car, the hot sunny weather, the reduced work hours or the big house next to the sea we now own as a result of moving to Australia!
Britain is suffering a bit of a 'brain drain' too -might be they resent so many well qualified people moving away. I have met literally hundreds of British doctors and nurses in this area of Australia, it seems so many can't wait to leave!

You are obviously mixing with the wrong people. The English are famous for setting up little Englands all over the world.

There are parts of Spain now where Spanish is the second language.

There is nothing wrong with emigrating, many of us intend to do it as soon as possible. What most English and Brits in general dont like however is the old country being slagged off.

We all know its bad points but we dont have to listen to outsiders having a pop.

mate you did the best thing. more and more uk citizens are emmigrating than ever before due to the amouth of immigrants coming here. i work in the building trade and finding work is harder as the eastern europeans do the job for a third of the price. i am currently thinkin of going to autralia where i can earn good money as a ceiling fixer. i am extremely proud to be English but i would not slate anyone who emmigrates. by the way is 6.33am on a cold dark bristol morning!!!

i think of you're quite overestimating the skill for England to stand via itself there - the only reason its parent practice a severe GDP is by way of the digital wealth in the economic sector of the city of London. England would be thoroughly reliant on different international locations for ALL its capability - maximum exceptionally Scotland

I'm English and i don't agree with that. I am proud to be English, but lets face it this country is getting worse and worse as regards to taxation (ludicrous compared to Australia!) Immigration (which doesn't necessarily make the country better) and the weather. On the one hand we understand why people emigrate, but on the other hand it makes the rest of us feel bad because it confirms what we know but can't accept -that we'd like to come with you.

I think Traitor is a bit strong, perhaps your getting that message on a more personal family level. All countries in the World have good and bad points and it's a trade off between those points when one chooses to emigrate, good luck to you all of us in Blighty wish you well.

I don't think they do, generally. I can understand why Rose's family might not appreciate the house/car/weather being smugly thrown in their faces though! I think it depends on how you talk about it - if you harp on about how crap the UK is and how great it is wherever you are, then people aren't going to like it, but if you maintain a healthy perspective, I find most people are interested rather than bitter.

Do you ? Or do you get abuse for wailing on about how much you hated England & how you're so glad you left & how could anyone ever live there ? Its still home to a lot of people, so when you criticise it you upset them. I mean, would you walk into someone's front room & tell them the carpet & curtains are sh*t ? People are sensitive about their home !
