Tips while preparing for a wax

Whether you use hot wax or cold wax you must make sure that the hair is atleast 1/8 of an inch for hair to be embedded by the wax. You must also make sure that the skin is clean and thoroughly dry to get the best waxing results. Also ensure that the wax is not over heated, as it might cause a skin burn. The consistency of the wax should be like honey. However, to avoid mess try using disposable cellophane strips rather than the traditional cloth ones.

Tips on applying wax during waxing

You should try and test a small area before proceeding with a large one to make sure that there are no allergic reactions. Also make sure to apply the wax in the same direction as that of the hair growth. While removing the wax strip make sure to pull it against the direction parallely and not straight up to the body.

Post wax tips

Applying hand pressure on the waxed area helps in soothing the skin. A lotion or the application of oil on the skin also does well. A lot of people tend to suffer from redness or itchiness just after a wax. Applying an ice pack can be the solution to this problem.

Many a times it happens that the skin appears darker after a wax. One should avoid exposing the waxed area to the sun for a minimum of 24 hours or use a good sun blocker with a high SPF.

Also make sure that you avoid waxing before and during your menstrual cycle, as the skin is much more sensitive during that period than what it is normally.

Avoid waxing sun burned skin as well because it has a tendency to come off. People suffering from diabetes or teenagers prone to acne should also avoid waxing.

If one follows these tips religiously and is also regular with the process, not only does the hair become softer but the growth of hair also lessens considerably.

UGH im scared reading these answers! For home use there is a home wax kit called WAXcellence. This is basically a home version of the worlds best salon only wax (lycon). All the girls reccomend it in clinic to clients that want to touch up waxing at home after their professional waxing service. It is avaliable online (google search it) or selected pharmacies and beauty salons.

You have the right idea with sugaring. Sugar Wax is great for people who haven't waxed before because it washes off easily and it (supposedly) hurts less. I find it more effective, also.

Nair used to make a nice Sugar Wax Kit that came with a roll on applicator with the wax inside, which you would microwave, and the "paper" strips. If you can find it, I would recommend it, it is my favorite. But they also have a plain "wax" kit now too, that isn't bad either.

In any case, I'd get one with a roll-on applicator. It works for all areas and decreases the messy factor. Besides, spreading the wax yourself is difficult. All you have to do is heat up the wax in the applicator (in the microwave or in a cup of hot water; I usually do the latter even if it isn't called for) and then roll it on, press the strip down and pull in the opposite direction of your hair.

(This works if your hair is at least a certain length, like 1/4 inches. Because, obviously, you can't wax supershort hair.)

Good luck!

If you go to a salon or spa it will take less time, u wont have to buy any products, and it will be done by a professional..I say leave it to them...you'll prob only need to wax again for another month so once a month is not bad and its worth the money to lay down and let a professional do their job.

Yes. Sally Hansen makes a decent wax product, but I'd get it professionally done anyway.
