Let us for one moment take away the bible altogether, do you think your beliefs be the same. Our basis of God & the knowledge we have of him stems from a book that we sometimes can and sometimes cannot take literally depending on you you speak to, so let us take away this book for a minute. Do you think stories passed on for two or three thousands years would still be believed today, would they even be the same stories at this point. Would religion have survived at all. What basis would you have to go on at this point. Curious is all.

Yes I still believe and I don't read the bible. For the very reason you pointed out. It has been wrote to many times. Weather they are true christens or satin yea'ers. They all are a form of cults for lack of a better word right now it's late. Maybe call them Clicks.
Their is some truth in stores from years long ago. I have kept a journal since age 7 and I am 52 now. It has pictures of the history that has taken place up to date. I want my family who are and yet to come to have it and add to it. I think it is a great way to share a life lived during my time period. I will continue until I can not write or type. i have it on treated paper and on disks. My kids get a monthly issue from me and add their share.
This has been the most interesting question I've seen on here. I hope you will keep it up as long as you can. It is a very soul searching question that you should get a lot of feed back. A+

During 1800s, Anthropologists had a problem as to how
to classify human beings. One researcher proposed the
expression "intelligent animal". After advanced studies
on monkeys, it was dropped. Another researcher proposed
"tool using animal". After observing some animals
making wooden tools and sharpening them with knife like
stones, it was dropped. Another researcher proposed
"weapon using animal". A decade ago, a rare film was
shot in African forests. One short monkey was hit very
badly by a big monkey. The short monkey prepared a
wooden knife using stones and hid it on the top of a
tree. After some days, when the big monkey came to
attack the short monkey, it ran up to the tree for the
weapon it has hid and killed the big monkey. The one
thing that the anthropologists found with any group of
human beings, even if they did not have contacts with
the out side world for thousands of years, is
spirituality with some form of religion. So, man is a
"spiritual animal" if you want to call him that way.

The Upanishads say that "Manush" (human) was so named
because he has "Manas" a mind higher than that of the
animals which realises the divinity in creation. It was
present since the creation of human beings. Religion is
the characteristic feature of most of the human beings.
It is as eternal and and as unchanging as the Almighty.
Disbelief by a few will not affect it.

Yes, my beliefs would be the same. I'm a member of the Catholic Church, which came into existence before the NT books were written. The stories of Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection, and His teachings were transmitted orally. ("Bible-only" Christianity would have been completely foreign to the early Christians.) Judaism, from whence Catholicism sprang, also has a history of strong oral tradition (since many of the early Christians were Jews, again, the "Bible-only" concept was simply unheard of.) According to Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, "In many respects, the Oral Torah is more important than the Written Torah."

For those of The True Christian Faith it is not The Bible that is first... it is God... The Bilble dose not prove God... God proves The Bible... I did not even own a Bible on the day of my Salvation... nore did any one read one to me.. it was just me and God... it was not untill three days latter that I bought one...But I knew God and I knew The Truth of The Salvation Message... My Salvation, my place in Heaven, was assured with no Bible involved... But I had God's Promise... and that is all that is needed.... I now read from The Bible and it only confirms what God told me to start with... and more of course... but a Bible is not needed to come to God as He prescribes... it dose help if one has some knowledge of the Bible and I had that from 40 years before as a small child in Sunday school... But I did not accept any of that and never concidered the Bible to be any thing for me for most all of my 53 yrs untill after The Day God finaly got my attention...The Salvation Message is kept in the hearts of the faithfull... it has survived the millenia that way... And it is just as it was from The Begining..

I hardly ever read the bible but I have faith because If there were no bible for 3000 years I would be with people of faith & we would write prayers or stories to pass down -- not the bible as some know it today

Not everything I believe about God comes from the Bible. Some of my beliefs come from Sacred Tradition passed down to us from the Apostles. If this tradition can be passed down over all this time, why not the word of the Bible.

God bless,

Oral tradition is more subjected to corruption without a historical document as a standard.
The following passage states that we are expected to see God manifest Himself in His creation whether we have a Bible or not:
"Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has shown it unto them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so they are without excuse. - Romans 1:19 - 1:21
In other words, The evidence for a creator can clearly be seen by the created - just by observing nature, even without your Bible. Is it reasonable to conclude that particles became people - all by themselves - without intelligent design?
Also, God has written His laws in our conscience.

To me God's Word is important. God communicates with me through the Bible. Luckily I do not have to be without it.

I'm sure God would have given us another way to pass on his word with accuracy. Are you suggesting a scenario where there is no God? It sounds like it.

lots of good questions..its always easier to be anti anything..it just is..i lost some so called friends when i told them to just drop it and they can believe what they want to believe...they could not do this so i just dropped them as i did not want to have to prove anything to anyone...no matter what argument you give you can't prove or disprove faith or religion..it just is...just like love or hate...it sometimes just is...and lives on its own merits..
its good to be curious and i too am curious but some things just have to be taken on faith or you will tear yourself apart in doubt and misery.
If i like something and it works for me then this is good enough for me..so that's just my take on things..but you did ask a good question...there is no such thing as a bad question..right?
