I'm dating this guy. Everything was going fine. We were together all the time. He got into a little trouble so I helped him out by giving him $200.00 on the PROMISE that he would pay me back on his payday which was a week ago. He keeps giving me the runaround. "I'll pay you back tomorrow, I dont have it with me right now" I'm thinking of going to his house and doing $200.00 worth of damage to his car. Afterall...fair exchange is not robbery!!!

I appreciate you guys responding to my question. Let me clarify one more thing for the people who are saying maybe he's low on finances and maybe he ran into more trouble...He keeps telling me that he has it but it's not on him or I gotta go to the bank. If he's broke and doesn't have it, I would definitely understand that. We've ALL been there. I would make arrangements with him or something, but for him to keep giving me the runaround is making me think I'm out of 200 bucks.

I hope you are no longer seeing this guy. You have just gained some valuable experience. Now you know better don't part with your money so readily in future.

You will not go to his house and do any damage to anything because you will not compound inexperience with foolishness. Why should you go to jail because of this loser?

What you can do is file in small claims court against him. If he sent you any notes or emails promising to pay you back then you can take those as evidence. I am assuming you did not make him sign a promissory note.Even if you have voicemail messages from him promising to pay back you can take it with you to small claims court.

Have you been paying for the dates too?
You should tell him that you are upset and that you need to be paid back. Tell him that you can understand if he can't come up with all of the cash right now and that you will let him pay $50 a week. If he doesn't agree to that or if he misses a payment I think you should just move on. If you damage his car you could start a feud and begin finding your property damaged!

Doing the damage to his car is a criminal act. You could get into a lot more trouble doing that than he will by not paying you back. It isn't worth it. Just walk away.

I have a rule: I only loan money I can afford to lose. That way, if they don't pay me back, I haven't lost anything.

Kick him to the curb for starters, then go to his house and demand you get your money back and that you won't leave until he gives it to you... I know how tempting it is to do some damage to his car, but in the end it is not worth it cause you could be up for more costs if someone catches you. There are other ways to get even - time to play the game by your rules :)

Yeah but damaging his property could get you tossed in jail.

He might be tight on finances right now or he might be a loser sponge. If you really like him give him more time.

The other option would be to write off the loss & move on to better things with a guy that doesn't have to borrow money from a girlfriend.
