What are the main reasons for an unlisted phone number?? Is it cost or what?

What do you mean cost? We have an unlisted number and its mainly for privacy reasons. We definately do NOT get as many telemarketer calls as a published number would.

Actually, I believe you have to pay a fee to have an unlisted number, at least in the US.

Usually, people have an unlisted number because they don't want other people to call them. The people that I know with unlisted numbers want to avoid solicitors, that crazy stalker ex, their high school alumni association's burning desire for money. Some people also choose an unlisted number on the principle of limiting the amount of information that is publicly available about themselves.

So that the only people that call them are only the people to whom they have given their number to. Usually family and good friends! It used to be that you did pay extra for an unlisted telephone number. That probably hasn't changed.

So people cannot look them up and call them. They dont want people to know their phone number.

privacy is the reason if your boss lives in the same town he wouldn't want you calling and bothering him and alot of people hate being bothered
