I have been working out and doing pretty good. I have lost 10lbs so far. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about Weight Watchers? Is it worth the money? I am more concerned with eating healthier so would it be best to get a good healthy cookbook instead? And if so, any in mind?

I recommend trying sparkpeople.com! It's a totally FREE diet and exercise plan...and it works! They have all kinds of healthy recipies on there too...so no need for a cookbook. I lost over 30 pounds using their website to track my intake. It's wonderful!

Here's some more tips that I've written up (especially check number 6):

1. stop eating most grease, fat, salt, & sugar.
-this means no fast food. fried foods. greasy food. fatty foods. sodium. sugary foods (including, but not limited to, candy & soda pop).

2. drink a lot. i mean A LOT. of WATER!
-at least 8-10 (8oz.) glasses a day. at first this may cause you to put on some slight water weight, but in the long run it helps flush the fat out of your body. also, did you know that 90% of the times that you are hungry you are actually thirsty. You especially need water since you are exercising everyday.

3. do NOT starve yourself.
-eat about 6 very small HEALTHY meals daily. that way your body won't go into starvation mode and it will easily process the food you eat and use it for energy instead of fat.

4. keep track of your calories eaten.
-you should probably aim to eat around 1,500 a day. do not go under 1,000. this all depends on your BMI, sex, etc.

5. eat HEALTHY.
-this means organic foods. vegetables. no white breads...eat lots of healthy 100% whole grains. fiber. etc. buy only healthy low fat/reduced fat & calorie foods....however just because they are healthier does not mean you can eat as much as you want of them. eat only 1 serving portion according to the nutrition label on the box.

6. exercise.
- Did you know that researchers have now proven that DIET is more important than excercise when it comes to losing weight. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13821677/)..... Exercise is important to keep a fit and tone body...and it definately helps maintain your health! I don't really exercise, but I do walk (sometimes lol)! Exercise also help you feel fuller longer. but remember...when you are exercising everyday, it does not mean you can cheat on your diet.

7. take a daily vitamin
-...I take WeightSmart. there are also some other healthy vitamin supplements that help you lose weight in the long run. one of them that is good is called CLA. CLA helps to lose fat and gain muscle. you can buy it at wal-mart or basically any store that sells vitamins. i wouldn't particularly recommend diet pills. they're kind of a waste of money and not good for your body.

8. weigh yourself.
-at least once a week, if not everyday. (you should aim to lose about 2 pounds a week.) also, set a long term goal weight & date.(based on if you were to lose about 1-2 pounds a week.)

9. BE PATIENT!!
-i cannot emphasize that enough! losing weight takes a while & believe me we all want a miracle overnight cure, however it simply does not exist. but if you stick to these things and really follow them. you will lose weight AND keep it off. if you try to lose the weight too fast, you'll just gain it right back. trust me. also, you will have slip ups, don't let them get you down, just start over again the next day...eventually you'll get it right, i promise!!!

10. remember that you are on a diet & let everyone around you know too.
-so that way they can support you. remember that out of sight=out of mind. get that junk food out of the house.

I just joined two weeks ago - and I have dropped 7 pounds and I am in awe of how they are teaching me how to eal with my eating patterns.
I love the meetings I think they are positive - and I Learn so much. If you have a positive attitude about weight loss - this is it!
My friends who I just found out yesterday - has been on it for the last 20 weeks and she is down 25 pounds. (she is now a size 4) - she was a 12-14. BUT in my meetings there are about 5 women who have lost around `100 pounds each (they are the BEST motivators).
I feel so corny loving it so much - but I look at food differently and realize how badly I was eating in the first place - and If I want to treat myself or go out drinking I can. I can live my life and lose weight at the same time!

About the diet cookbook: Try Richard Simmons the diet guru. The Great North American Cookbook-author Larry North-recipes for Chinese, French, Italain, Mexican, Thai,Indian, Caribbean & Cajun. I have made recipes ahead of time & frozen for later-as when dont feel like cooking pot in stove or nuke. Not to mention I have tried all of the recipes besides. I got this from a friend & use it alot, it's the paperback one.

~Good Luck sis~

First of all I commend you on the weight loss! Weight Watchers seems to be a pretty good program, I have several friends that do it. From what I have seen it is really just a point system so people who don't really know how to eat right have a guideline. I just work out religiously and eat healthy. It's pretty simple really. Just make sure you eat 5 or 6 SMALL meals a day. Eat foods that are good sources of protein. Avoid simple sugars (junk food) Don't eat anything that is just empty calories. Eat fat free and whole grain whenever possible. Don't eat anything fried, go for the grilled chicken or fish. Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Almonds and peanut butter in moderation because of the calories. Egg whites and oatmeal is the perfect breakfast. Take it easy on the carbs unless it's right before your workout. Drink lots and lots of water! Green tea is great too, it speeds up your metabolism. Get fitness magazines they almost always have sample menus in them.

Weight watchers could be the best thing that happened to me and the people I recommend it to. Try the points plan, if you dont want to count points, try the core plan. Take appetite supresents as well....and drink ALOT during the day.....water, cold lipton diet green tea, diet cranberry juice, v8 juice, flavored water.

I have lost 70lbs.

dont go on any diet plan. you cant go on a diet plan and stay healthy. just dont drink caloric beverages like soda or coffee. sports drinks are great while working out, but only while working out. gatorade for example, gives your body everything it needs while you work out. eat meat, eat vegetables. never eat fast food. just be smart about what you eat. make sure you dont only eat one type of food, mix it up. vegetables are great but there are many important nutrients in meat that cannot be found in vegetables. finally, dont consume soy products, soy is very bad for you.

Just stop being a pig and gorging yourself, you don't need to pay Jenny Craig or anyone else more of your hard earned money.
