March 17th is St.Patricks Day! So go to the St.Patricks Day Parade on 5th Avenue!! There are a LOT of Irish in New York and I'd say it'd be great fun plus you'll get to see all the shops on Fifth Avenue and visit St.Patricks Cathedral - which is amazing! I'm ovbviously a little biased because I AM Irish.....

It really depends what you're interested in. If you want to see the high-end lifestyle and designer stores ---go to the upper east which include Park Ave, MadisonAve, & 5th ave....

If you continue downtown a little more you can see Rockefeller Center and the location things like the NBC morning show. There is also times square.

There is also the more ethnic districts such as Little Italy and Chinatown which are fun but not necessarily something you would want to spend a lot of time at.

Finally, in lower Manhattan you have the site of the World Trade Center. Also, South Street Seaport is not far which includes some shopping and restaurants.

Since you are not from the area, I would recommend taking one of the red tour buses (it may be a little pricey) but you can see a lot of Manhattan. It's not difficult to get around but you have to have a general sense of direction as far as navigating on the subways.

Just walking around and exploring on your own can be a lot of fun. Also, get a map...it will definitely help. Have a great trip.

Guidebooks and tourist websites will tell you all the basics. Here are some places you might want to check out that are probably not in those types of guides:

Le Souk - Hookah Bar/Northern African Restaurant/Disco - Avenue B between 3rd and 4th st.

Zabar's - Fantastic Deli/Grocery - 80th st. and Broadway - www.zabars.com

Joe's Shanghai - Dim Sum, Soup Dumplings - Chinatown - Pell st. between Mott and Bowery

Lit - Great Dive Bar, check out the basement too - 2nd avenue between 5th and 6th st.

Rodeo Bar - Restaurant/Live Music, try the
pomegranite margarita and some Texas BBQ - 3rd avenue and 27th st. - www.rodeobar.com

My favorite thing to do in New York is try not to get mugged. That can be difficult and tricky.
